warpfield is really designed to give zoanthropes a 2+ save. i don't think its supposed to be taken on tyrants (even if it is an option) or, if a tournament doesn't allow mutable species (it happens) you can still give your tyrant a 2+ save |

Warp Field is a waste of points when you have extended carapace. However, your tyrant should ALWAYS have extended carapace. That thing has saved my tyrant MANY times.

The difference is you can give warp filed to a non-mutated tyrant (ie one chosen from the main list). It also counts as a psychic power, whereas extended carapace does not. Not that it makes much difference. Extended carapace is a much better option. Try giving mutated tyrants devourers. If they're mutated to S6 then thats 6 S5 AP4 shots. Possibly at BS4. S6 shots if the tyrant has exceptional size. Mad. I find couple of tyrant guard afford much better protection in games >1250pts.

The only reason i can find for giving warp field to a Hive Tyrant is that, as a multaple genus tyrant, it can then take all the other biomorphs, as it has a limit on the amount of biomorph enhancements, and taking extended carapiece counts towards this limit, so you cannot use one of the other biomorphs (e.g. Toxin sacs). Whereas with Warp Field you can get a 2+ save and have all the other biomorph enhancements... Otherwise both are exactly the same, but warp field is, bizarely, much more exspensive. Nut a Tyrant is definatly allowed to use Warp field. :shifty: (or both if you wanna waste points :huh: )
