In my first game ever this past weekend the 6+ I save saved my Hive Tyrant.
(note that I had 2000 pts. Tyranid vs. my brother's 1000 pt. SM and my friend's 1000 pt. IG army).
My HT assaulted a Leman Russ on turn 5 and it exploded with a penetrating hit, killing a large number of IG and gaunts. I rolled a 2 for the HT's save, so the Warp Field saved him that wound. Then the Dreadnaught shot my HT (yea, I know I should have assaulted the Dread first, gimmie a break it was my first game ever). My HT was left with one wound when the Dreadnaught assaulted, and the Dread survived the HT's 5 attacks on superior initiative. The dreadnaught had a power fist (or whatever) that did one wound and I made the 6+ save. My brother was pissed! On my turn the HT flew off a bit (since the walker can't lock the HT in CC) then assaulted the Dreadnaught (had to get that +1 attack!). The Dreadnaught was then destroyed on a penetrating hit despite the Venerable.
The 6+ I save saved my HT and killed a Dreadnaught in my first game not to mention that the HT wouldn't have survived the Russ exploding without the 2+ armor save since I rolled a 2. I will never ever ever choose not to have Warp Field on a flying Tyrant!

Actually, you made an error. . . Walkers do indeed get locked in combat, so the Tyrant could not have simply flown off.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

Ahh, that's what I told my brother and friend, but they said I was wrong and I listened since they have played more than me - although in all liklihood it would have ended the same way regardless.
I'll know for next time!
Yep, Ostol is correct. Even though they're armor, dreads have a weapon skill. Anything with a weapon skill locks you in assault.
yea but isnt that a good thing because it means that you cant be shoot at by the squad standing next to the dread and u get combat block beacuse their both M-level 3
Yes I would much rather be locked in combat with it than not. You can't be fired on by others and it also ties up that damn rending assault cannon. I told them that I thought it locked the HT in combat but they didn't believe me... we should have looked it up.
Yeah, whenever there's a disagreement in the rules, look it up. If the rulebook doesn't help (due to ambiguous wording), then either call up GW and ask them or roll a die.

Yes but the point relating to this post is that the Warp Field saved my Hive Tyrant from the evil evil Dreadnaught.
and thats all that matters here isnt it.....
