What is the point of warp field? for 5 less points you get EC, sure their is the bad INV save, but I hardly see how that balances out. Maybe i'm missing something?

Flying Tyrants can't take Extended Carapace, so the only way for them to have a 2+ save is to take Warp Field.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

I wouldn't ever take it. just a prsonal opinion, it isn't worth its points seeing as most stuff that is attacking you and has ANY chance of getting through is already AP2 or ignores armor saves.
True, but the Tyrant is still vulnerable to small-arms fire, which a 2+ save does provide some additional protection against. Also, the 2+ save minimizes the number of heavy weapons that can automatically penetrate the Tyrant's armour. Lascannons and Plasma might cut right through it, but the much cheaper Missile Launcher is stopped. IIRC, Orks have one AP2 weapon, making it very difficult for them to deal with Tyranid monsters in shooting. Against Dark Eldar I only forgoe the 2+ save on my Carnifex, whose toughness I raise to seven instead.

a yes but doesnt the warp-feild give a 6+ or 5+ invulnerable save now? im sure i read that sumwhere (dont hve my codex wif me) so not only does it provide protection againset small arms fire it also allows you the chace - abit a slim one but still a chance - to save versus LC and the like.
Yeah, it also has that 6+ invulnerable save. Such a save shouldn't be counted on, though; it's really more of a bonus. It's alot of fun to see such saves made, though.![]()

I have made my fair share of 6+ invulnerables on my tyrant, and always Immediately after I'm told not to bother with it since the chances are so slim.
From the unspeakable cold of the intergalactic void, an immeasurable alien intelligence moves ever closer. Barren husks of countless star systems lie in its wake.
The first tendrils of the Great Devourer, a single entity stretching over light years of space and controlled by the immortal Hive Mind, have probed our galaxy and found it rich in prey.
It has begun to feed.
Hey its still a chance to keep a wound from a LC and dats wat counts!
