LO Meet 2008 - Information Topic!

LO Meet 2008 - 11th, 12th and 13th of July 2008

Hello fellow Online Librarians, and welcome to this years LO Meet Information thread (OF DOOM!).
What I hope this years info thread to provide is a clear and detailed outline of the meet and the weekend as a whole. Giving you detail of hotels, pubs, places to eat and also places for evening entertainment.
I feel the evening entertainment part is the most important because, as some of you will already know, this is the first year where evening events will not be organised by LO staff due to the increasing number of attendies over the years.

This years info thread will also contain a map of Nottingham city centre, which will have marked on it places such as hotels, some pubs and food places, and also the cinema and Rock City. This will hopefully help with any people who might get lost or those of you who want to split off into smaller groups in the evenings and head out into the city.

At this point I should point out that while we at LO do not stop under 18's from coming to the LO Meet weekend, it is important for those who are under 18 and who wish to attend the meet that evening events for some people WILL include going to bars and pubs. Therefore it might be wise for you to arrange evening events with someone who might only be going to the cinema for example, or who might just be going to pizza hut or somewhere similar for food.
I will however add, that there is a bar at the Gresham Hotel and I imagine that you would always be welcome to tag along with any group that wishes to stay and play games back at the Gresham.

So, just what events can you expect at this year LO Meet? Well the raffle will still be there, and I hope with more prizes to boot, though I would think there will be gift vouchers up for grabs also.
There will also be a big game, but this time it will be set up in advance. Expect a thread going up about it soon after this one. That will take part on the Saturday, and will be 3 vs 3 or 4 vs 4 depending on the interest.
Of course you will be free to play as many friendies as you think you can fit into a day of gaming! And of course you will get to meet fellow Online Librarians and just generally have a weekend of relaxing and fun!
As it has already been mentioned, it will be very unlikely that I will run any evening events, but of course you are more than welcome to split off and continue have fun


Weekend Line-up:
Friday:
I will be in Nottingham as early as possible, and plan to be at Warhammer World for 14.00 by the latest. Generally nothing other than people meeting up, maybe getting a game in, and having a few beers happens on the Friday.

During this time people can exchange phone numbers and start to arrange plans for the Friday (And maybe even Saturday and Sunday) evenings.

Raffle tickets will go on sale from this point.

Saturday:

For those staying at the Gresham we will meet up for 09.00 in the morning (Please note, that if you wish to walk down to WW with the main group please make sure you are there FOR 09.0 The walk isn't that long with one person, but you tend to find that the group will walk slowly because people will chat and what not, and that is fine, this is why we set off at 09.00, to allow time for this.
If the weather is bad, then we can hijack a fleet of taxi's from the Train Station which is just next to the Gresham! Just make sure that you try to fill the taxi's with as many Online Librarians you can This will save on the cost of said taxi rides therefore lowering the cost per person.

The big game with start at 11.00 (More information will be found on the Big Game Thread)

Gaming will finish at 17.30 (5.30pm) This is to ensure that you have packed-up in order to leave at 18.00 when WW closes.

Once the group gets back to the Gresham people can then split of into any pre-arranged groups.


Sunday:

Again, for those who wish to walk down with the main group, please meet up in the Gresham lobby FOR 09.00

Sunday it fully open for general gaming. If you wish to play your own big games that is fine, though you need to be aware that on sunday GW will close at 16.00. So please be ready to head back to the Gresham by then.

The raffle will be called at 15.00 in Bugmans.

The last two years have seen people leave to go home through out the Sunday, so by Sunday evening there tends to be less people around. For those leaving Nottingham on the Monday (and providing you are old enough.) There is a wind down social drink in the Pit and Pendulum until it closes at 10.30

In finishing there are one or two more things I would still like to cover.
Firstly, please insure that you leave this thread banter free. It is for the meet information, the meet FAQ and the general asking of questions to do with the meet.
Posts which don't honour this are likely to be deleted without question.

Secondly, since this is the first year that we are running no LO run evening events, I would ask that if you see a fellow Online Librarian who has not mananged to hook up with anyone for evening events or who might be on their own, please at least offer to let them tag along with you.
In the LO Meet we are there to game, but more importantly, we are there to meet online friends and other people who share our forums. In essence the LO Meets are about socialising and making new friends, it just so happens that it is wargaming that brings us together.

Even if you won't be sure until nearer the time, please still PM me your interest so that I can add you to the unconfirmed list. You can always send me a PM at a letter date either confirming your attendence or asking to be removed from the list.

I wish I could be there, but not having a job for a few months has put a bind on the funds. Perhaps the next time around. The next place I want to take my wife is the UK, so perhaps I will be able to plan it around a future LO Meet.

One thing I did do, is created a Facebook event. If folk are indeed on there, then PM me and I'll see if I can add you to the event page. (Also, there is the LO group on facebook too. Join that!)

I hope Toastee doesn't mind me stepping in with this, of course. =) Hope to see more people there again this year. =D
