I've played Vampire Counts for a while but am new to the revised codex so heres my first take on a typical 2000pts list - based on the premise i like hordes of skeletons and zombies and magic lovelyness rather than boring knights.
Lord of Dead
Book of Arkhan
Flayed Hauberk 345
Supernatural Horror 175
1 Extra Spell
Corpse Cart Mount
Sceptre De Noirot
Unholy Loadstone 195
1 Extra Spell 70
Zombies x 25
Skeletons x 20
Banner of Dead Legion 193
Skeletons x 20
Dire Wolves x 5 40
Spirit Host x 3 185
Black Coach 200
20 x Grave Guard
Barrows Banner 297
If I worked that out right its 1976 points. But what bits can I change and how can I make up the remainder points?
I prefer to use the models that I have from the previous version hence the coach/spirit hosts etc. I dont have a Corpse cart but would like one. I'm not too keen on Blood Knights coz of price and cost, but I could always substitute my Black Knights for them. I don't personally like the Cairn Wrath squad (i preferred to use 2 Banshees in past but now I can't! :-( not fair!) I got plenty more skeletons/zombies available!
Is it me or is our power dice pool a bit nerfed in this book? Perhaps I missed something...
No ideas at all? :-(
Honestly, you know what I don't like about it? It looks just like my old VC army! :ballon:
Honestly, I think the army would do fine for being fun and winning games. But I'm too eager to try some of the new units and character combos. ;Y
But yeah, it looks very solid for gaming.
I know it doesnt have many of the new units in it, but the way it differs from my old VC force is that I never used to take Grave Guard, a Black Coach or as few zombies as this! The new rules make the first two units worthwhile and makes the zombies a little less worth it as skeletons are now finally cheaper in points.
Personally new units wise, most of them are in the Rare section. I'm not a big fan of the Wraiths/Banshees as they cost a lot for skirmishers and one nasty magic spell will knock them out. I miss the days when I could take 2 Banshees and scream them to death! Blood knights are far too expensive and I'm not a calvary fan, otherwise I'd be playing Empire or Elves. The coach has some new funky abilities and better saves so its now worth 200 points and I've yet to see the Varghulf in action to give an opinion on it, but that would be the only replacement for the coach really.
