I was thinkin of runnin 7 blood Knights with a lord in an upcommin game but then i was thinkin to myself
1. thats alot of points for a unit
2. thats quite the victory points for the oposer
3. but then again 7 blood knights with a lord SCARY!!!!!
can i get some help on this?
thank you very much for your time
I wouldn't run 7 knights and a lord in it. Aside from the fact that it is a lot of points in one unit, a frontage of 8 cavalry bases is too large for most combats. Often times at least one knight per fight will not be in base contact so his attacks will be wasted. Not only that but an 8 wide unit would be very unwieldy and hard to maneuver. I would generally try and stick to 6 wide, though with the expensiveness and power of blood knights you can go as low as 4 and still be fine.
i ment 2 rows..... 4 each....includin the lord in front
All eggs in one basket. Too many points and too much cash
I have a question though, is this for 2k? cause if the answer is yes then what about the rest of the army?
There is really no point in running them in ranks of 4. I would even say that 5 knights in one rank is more effective than 8 knights in 2 ranks.
If you want them with your lord, I would use 4-5 knights with a magic banner, and then spend the leftover points on support for the unit. Dire wolves and Fell bats, maybe even a Varghulf. Your knights hit very hard, and so does your lord, but they need a little help getting to the right combats. If you just leave them on their own there is a good chance they won't get to kill much, as they will charge anything they see, and a good opponent will direct them away from combat.
But if they hit the right place they can win the battle for you.
Why would you run them 4 wide? You only get rank bonus at 5, and it is extremely expensive to get +1 CR from knights by rank bonus even if you were to go 5 wide. That is over ten times the points for something a 25 point warbanner would give you.
Wrong place to post really.
I find if you even just have 5 blood knights, a lord + BSB then its too much points. Try a lord with black knights and just 5 blood knights on there on own, its far safer. If you come up against a really tough target you might want to combine the lord and blood knights. Just a vampire and 5 blood knights, that works well too.
yea this was complety by accident that i put this in the army section >< sorry can someone move it for me? my bad very sorry
A regular Vampire with the Blood Drinker sword is ideal for running with the Blood Knights. Every wound he inflicts will bring back one of those hideously expensive, though undeniably effective Blood Knights. As suggested above, I'd stick with a pretty small unit.
As for the Black Knights.. the only character I'll run with those guys is either a Wight King or a Vamp with Ethereal.. otherwise you sacrifice their Ethereal Movement, which is a really nice bonus to have.

As for the Blood Knights: do they gain a lot by being joined by a Vampire? Seems to me they should do well enough on their own, and a character would make them vulnerable to unwanted challenges, plus it's more points in an already expensive unit. Thoughts? Experiences?
