I'm actually just getting into Warhammer Fantasy Battle and already have a copy of the Vampire Counts Armybook. Anyways I want to grab a battalion but am uncertain as to where I should build up my army from there. I need vampires (duh!) but I dont wanna go about building an army that is simply disastrous. As an example, I thought Necromancers were excellent until I started reading the forums where I discovered they were a litte less than popular.
Anyways I thought I could request an armylist built around the Vampire Counts Battalion and see what you guys came up with! Points limit being 1000 and trying to keep all the elements of the battalion in the list.
For quick reference the armylist is being built up from:
1 Corpse Cart
The sky (and 1000 pts) is the limit!
Even if u buy a vampire, use the corpse cart with a necro (the dude thats riding in), use every possiblle upgrade in the units u get max points 820...so u need to get more stuff for 1k army.
Sorry, maybe my post was unclear. I mean that I plan on getting the battalion and that using it as a base I wanted to see what other players would build up to in 1000 point games. Maybe this is the wrong area for this topic. I guess I just want to know what experienced players suggest I move for and how I could um.... efficiently go about collecting vampire counts? It is after all an expensive hobby (but worth it!)
Aaaahhhh, ok now i get it. So the battalion is great for a new vamp army, u get your 3 basic core (ghouls, skells, zombies) and a more specialized (the cart, which can be used with a necro as well).
Now, from there on u have to decice the approach u want, if u want an undead horde or an elite force, or maybe a mixture of both leading to a ballanced army.
As a second buy i would get 1 box of wolves (u get 10, nive buy) and 1-2 boxes of grave guard,as u already know u need vamps, get the old blisters which give u 2 (mounted and on foot).
So i nive solid force using the battalion and 20 grave guard, 2 vamp heroes, and 2x5 wolves will give u a nice start to learn the army mechanics and from there on to see what more u want. You can also get a varghulf as a first rare choise which will be very nice in 1000pts.
So to give u the idea:
20 zombie, banner, music. 92
10 ghouls 80
20 skellies, fc 180
1 cart 75
5 wolves 40
5 wolves 40
1 varghulf 175
1 necro on the cart with extra spell and the book 105
1 vamp with any powers u want and equip, just dont over do it...so u can fit in 10 grave guard
All of that for 1000pts give and take with a bit of a twist.

I like the addition of wolves and a Varghulf. Does players usually just say that the guy crackin the whip on the corpse cart counts as a necromancer?
Here's a list with the wolves and Varghulf:
1 Vampire w/ Flayed Hauberk, Sword of Might, Walking Death, Infinite Hatred @ 190pts
1 Necromancer on CC w/ +1 Spell and Book of Arkhan @ 180pts
10 Ghouls @ 80pts
20 Skeleton Warriors w/ hw, musician, War Banner @197
20 Zombies w/ Standard and musician @ 92pts
5 Dire Wolves @ 40pts
5 Dire Wolves @ 40pts
1 Varghulf @ 175pts
To make room for 10 GG w/ Standard (132 pts) I guess I could drop the Vampire's Infinite Hatred (-25), the Corpse Cart (-75) and 5 zombies (-20)? This would put me at 998 points though I'm not sure how I would protect the necromancer other than stick him in the ghouls or something. I planned on just sticking the Vampire in with the Skeletons to add CR through kills and Walking Death. Tell me what you think
Thats a nice list, concerting the grave guard i mentioned them in order to have variety in your lists so u can try different stuff in games to see what works for you.
Zombies r 20+ so no choise there. If u drop ghouls and the zombie command and something else u can fit them...but u will find your list in time. GL in your games
