Terror to the world... so to speak

so i have a tad different VC army list in mind.

For the biggest part of my warhammer time i have played wood elfs, and as such have become very used to the "hit and run" and "i don`t want to fight" tactic`s.

This seems to still stick with me with my vampires, and also works for me in the tourneys i have played so far.

but my army has been toolded to fight, not to run.

So, i thought i`d make a vc army that more fit`s my "chicken" gameplay.

here is a rough blueprint of what i have in mind.

    Vampire lord
    Aura of dark
    Creatures of nig
    Dark acolyte
    Scabscratch
    Flayed hauberk
    Dispel scroll
    Magic level
    nightmare

    Vampire
    Aura of dark
    Bsb
    Drakenhoof banner
    Nightmare

    vampire
    aura of dark
    nightmare
    flayed hauberk
    balefire spike

    vampire
    aura of dark
    nightmare
    cadaverous
    scroll

    20 zombies
    20 zombies
    20 zombies

    dire wolves x5

    dire wolves x5

    Fell bats x 3

    6 black knights w/ barding
    champ
    standard
    royal standard of strigoy

    6 black knights w/barding
    champ
    standard
    battle banner

Not sure if i have filled upp all the points, but it should be close.

Idea is to get all 4 vamps withinn 6" range of enemy units while still beeing safe should the plan fail.

All units withinn 6 of my vamps and lord will have to take ald test with a -4 modifier.
This will send most non immune to psyc army`s running for the hills.
And if they don`t, the units facing them are no walk in the park to take down eiter.

    Comment`s welcome

I was under the impression that multiple Auraa of Dark Majesty weren't cumalative.
    It's wording is:
"All enemies within 6" of one or more vampires with Aura of Dark Majesty suffer a -1 penalty to their LD (cumalative with any other modifiers)."

To me that says that irregardless of how many vampires have the power you'll only ever get -1 from the blood line.
The other modifiers would be things like combat res, Doom and Darkness, etc.

yeah, i got that one thrown at me at a tourney as well, ended upp with calling a Gw store and asking what they made of it.

I got the -4 ld that i was after

Reason they gave "poor wording" (like that`s new from gw)

so for now i will go with the -4 untill a faq says otherwhise

Is that true just for AoDM or is it true for all the other stuff in the VC book with "one or more"?
As if it's true for all of them then Walking Death and Unholy Lodestone just got a big boost as well.

I know, but your original post said "originally posted by Stonehambey". It doesn't anymore, of course, because I changed it.

As for the thread. I would also argue that the AoDM doesn't stack thanks to the "or more" bit.

That's actually a very weak list - you will be torn apart by armies whether or not they are ItP..

Against goblines, when you get within 8" - bang - out go the fanatics.
And those Vampires will end up as pin-cushions to Wood Elves at short range which can move and fire without penalty.

Against High Elves, you are likely to face a Dragon, and this will munch on those Vampires with their lack of decent wards etc - and you can't have multiple flayed hauberks...

As to getting to the other side of the battlefield alive...
Most armies have S6+ war machines, more than capable of killing a unit of vampires from range, or hitting them whilst they are on their own and not benefitting from "Look out Sir".

the alternative is for an army like Choas to take fear tests and charge the enemy units, andthen be ItP from teh Vampires that way - then they will be more than capable of butchering the few Undead units by themselves, leaving the Vampires woefully low on minions to call upon.

These are scary, don;t get me wrong, but just saying that regardless of how you play it (and AoDM wouldn't stack, will check tonight in my book) most armies can counter this easily enough.

because once you take a terror test you dont need to take it any more for the game it seems pointless to have 4 terror causers... if you really want it just go with vargulfs or black coaches or wraiths as they will provide it just as well and as a bonus it will fit better in with their role than it will with characters.

if youre going to take the drakenhoff banner my experience has been you need a BIG sized unit (10 knights, 20 GG, 25 skellies)...i dont see anything that would work that well for you.

Also if you like elf tactics consider the wraiths, they skirmish, can move through terrain, cause the terror you like and have little armor, so that works also banshees can give you some shooting
