Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am quite new to playing VC. A few games with Necrach bloodline prior to the new Codex. I like the idea of an undead cavalry army and so came up with the following:
Vampire Lord (455)
Blood Knights x5 (405)
Kastellan w/ Sword of Might
Banner of Blood Keep
Sword of Battle
Black Knights x5 (212)
Wight King (145)
Sword of Kings
Black Knights x5 (217)
Banner of the Barrows
Skelletons x20 (221)
Skelletons x20 (221)
Icon of Vengence
Gouls x10 (80)
Wolves x5 (40)
Wolves x5 (40)
TOTAL: 2234 pts PD:6 DD:5
Not very complicated, center to hold with strong arms pinching in on the flanks. The vampires will of course need to be in position to raise when needed. Please let me know your thoughts on spending the few remaining points, improvements etc.
Thanks for taking a look!
Good list, and i like the idea, only a couple things i'd like to bring up. First off drop the spears on ur skellies, not worth thier points. With those points give ur units full CMD, u can't have a magic banner with out a standard bearer. I'm not sure if u have included a mount on your hero's as it isn't on ur list. Also, your white king cannot take a dispell scroll, u have to give it to your other guys. I'd try giving the banner of double unit strength to one of your units of black knights, and the hatred banner to the other, more worth thier points imo. Other than that not bad. Tell me how it does when u play it.
Thanks very much for your thoughts Ollie, I will try without the spears and change up the banners on a few games. I will let you know how it goes.
A smart general will see 1. you only have 2 units of wolves, and 2. a general in a blood knight unit and then they will win. I think since you do not have much magic ghouls are a much better choice so you do not lose the banners. Also blood knights do not need a vamp helping them, they can annhilate almost anything they charge by themselves, so the vamp should go in something not as baitable. More wolves is always better and I don't think a WK can have a scroll. Otherwise its a cool idea and build.
2009 Tourny records (W-L-D) (20-4-4):
9/56, 1/12, 2/14, 4/14, 32/82, 1/6, 16/72
They will win? I know i haven't played many games with frenzied troops, but is it really that bad? With 2 units of wolves to guide u you a pretty set and even if they die, they can only flee so much, and if they do the whole game, he hasn't killed ur general and he won't have any of those beautiful victory points. I was actually thinking you could just go all out and just use zombies and cavalry (units of 20 with no command). Try and tarpit troops and then pick apart the rest of the army one at a time. Be careful if u use this though, if he kills more zombies than u do his people (which is likely even with Blood Knights), then u could loose combat if u charge a unit locked in Combat. Wait till u have killed everything else, then charge him in the rear when ur zombies die.
Also, extra points can go towards more cav. with better Banners!!!! woot!!!!! But now ur list is super tailered to a cav force, and isn't as well rounded, but who cares! O or u could get some more Magic/Vampire support.
Without a doubt dont have 400 points of blood knights with a 450 point hero thats one nice 850 point target right there. Lose that little unit and theres a good chance you will lose the game. I would deff rethink even taking blood knights in a 2250 point game.. or at least bring them down ALOT of points.
Vampire Counts-4000 Points
Black Templars-2000 Points
You might want to consider giving your vampire lord the Dread Knight power as it gives him a barded nightmare so he can accompany the blood knights, a lance and shield.
Other than that I really like this list. The cavalry theme is nice and makes your army fast enough to threaten the enemy right off at the start of the game.
