Hey yall ,
I'm really struggling coming up with a nice 2k list for VC revolving around my 2 units of bloodknights.
ideally i want 3 units of 20 zombies , 2 units of 5 bloodknights , 1 unit of blackknights and 2 screening units of dire wolves.
in a 2k game is having a lord in a bloodknight unit with blooddrinker and the unit std bearer using flag of blood keep overkill? if screened by a unit of direwolves is it necessary? i was considering running ;
lord with blooddrinker with 5 kbk with flag of blood keep (ranged ward save)
bsb with drakenhoff banner and 5 kbk with royal std of strigos
as i said , both unit will be screened by dire wolves so is the banner combos overkill for 2k pts?
i play at a very competitive store - and i still wanna use two units of kbk but i dont want to OVER OVER cheese it!!
sorry if i rambled on! thx for any incite on my ideas!
Hey Max, I'd start by at least putting together a rough list so everyone knows what characters you're adding and how much the list is going to come to. I don't think you have a full 2000pts with what you've listed, and you probably need to add some supporting characters and list specific equipment on each character and unit.
I've recently tried cavalry heavy list myself at 1500 pts based around a unit of blood knights with the flag of the blood keep. It seems like a good combo, and having a lord lead that unit could be make it extremely lethal. However as you said it could potentially be overkill (depends what other characters/ units you're coming up against). I found that vampires made a much more significant difference in black knight units because they really give an increase in killing power to the unit. So maybe move the lord to a unit of black knights and just put a normal vamp in each of the blood knight units?
A few other questions:
1) Is there any reason to use zombies? They are a bit out of place because they move slowly, and are weak in combat so may swing combats against you if they are involved. Have you thought about 3 units of 10 ghouls, and a vampire with ghoulkin? They will be 16 inches across the board by the end of the first turn and should therefore keep up with cavalry, and can actually do something in combat. If you take summon ghouls you can also increase their numbers easily.
2) Take more units of dire wolves, I found that I needed at least 2 to babysit my single blood knight unit last game. Do not use them to screen the knights from missiles, but rather to make sure the knights charge who you want them to charge. For this reason they may be best kept behind the knights for a turn or two, and then moved out to restrict line of sight/ block counter charges. Personally I'd go for 4 or 5 units just to make sure you always have ways of deflecting units away from your knights, but you could make do with less I suppose.
Anyway that's enough for now. Maybe write up that list and let me know what you think? And when you say a competitive gaming group, is there anything in particular that will be difficult to deal with?
Thanks for the reply!!
i certainly could reconsider the zombies , i was just trying to make use of what i had , i guess i could just use those zombies as summon speed bumps! and il certainly consider taking more dire wolves!
i like the idea of black knights with my lord , il definetly consider that , and il attempt to write up a list this evening.
concerning the gaming group at my local GW , it seems from what ive heard there is a slaanesh demon player who basically plays your turn for you , an empire player using 2 steam tanks whenever possible plus waraltar etc... amongst others , the trouble seems to be they are very much adepts at destroying VC lists , and my favored KBK in particular!!! although it may be due in some part to the inexperience of the attending VC players.
