Ok, so thanks to christmas im now in possesion of a lovely box of blood knights....the kastellan which i have converted into my lord..I want to try them out and use them ASAP...so what do you think of this list...
Book of Arkhan
+1 Magic Level 450
Dread knight 275
Lord of the dead 145
Summon Ghouls 145
Banner, Champion 164
Banner, Champion 164
10x Ghouls 80
19x Grave Guard
Banner, Champion 252
4x Blood Knights 325
The Vampire lord and the BSB are in the Blood Knight unit (not sure about the others)
The lord has the book in order to manouver the blood knights to counter frenzy...1st turn i will try to get the ghouls up to 20-30 strong
So what do you think....
The core of the army is very similar to what I use in my own army.
Personally I'm not that sure about having a lord in a unit that is meant to be very in the face of the enemy. Due to the horrible crumbling issues I would always take my general in a more magical capacity.
Good luck with it though, I can afford to churn out for that Blood Knight set, let us know how it goes.
Are you sure you spent enough on that one unit?
If your entire army is going to swing on it, I'd give them a musician, standard and the Flag of Blood Keep to ensure all 1000 points of them make it to the enemy. I'd also look into some Bat Swarms, Fell Bats, or Dire Wolves to block LoS and keep them from getting led around by the nose.
Check out ==My== blog: www.bnhblog.blogspot.com
sorry i didnt write it down....i have paid for banner, musician and flag of blood keep....hopefully im playing with it today so ill let you know how i get on
Yes, Dire wolves are what you're wanting here, now he mentions it.
With 3 20 strong blocks of infantry in the center, a small unit of just 10 ghouls isn't going to make too much of a difference and for the same points cost you could grab 2 units of 5 dire wolves each to either protect the other flank of block LoS and otherwise assist your Knights.
Keep on Unliving.
Well i use the ghouls as a 3rd mandatory core choice which i then raise to 20 in the first turn.....well today was an odd day
I played a game against a dwarf player whos army was built be 2 pros (who dont like vampire counts) to counter my army.....knowing it was dwarves i thought that the regen would better serve the grave guard so i put the bsb in the grave guard along with my lord (both on foot, slight weapon changes) and bought a fifth knight as a kastellan....I won.....although the blood knights died when they hit a 25 dwarf strong unit of ironbreakers (i went on the flank furthest from his flaming stonethrower...wuickly realizing my mistake)...while the rest of the army butchered him (i killed every unit using a combo of 20 ghouls in the front and 20 grave guard in the flank).....
.....I then playhed another game against a chaos player where my blood knights were in the center of my battle line and after quite a few mistakes on my part......they were the only thing left on the table....by turn 4......he had only lost a unit of 5 wolves.....ouch......so im still not sure about blood knights and i will probably swap the banner of blood keep with the banner that doubles my unit strength to make sure i break enemies quickly (or maybe the hatred banner....what do you guys think)......how would you cnage the list
btw i summoned zombies to block my blood knights from chargind due to frenzy however they stopped my knights from doing anything.....
feel free to write up your own ideas of my army list....i have more models (10 dire wolves...5 black knights....2 corpse carts....20 more ghouls.....10 more grave guard....and about 60 zombies)....what do you think would be best?
Ok....so i played a game today with a slightly modified list and almost won...(i lost because of my own mistake...curse my stingyness...) anyway i asked the guy afterwards to comment on my list and to be honest i agreed with what he had to say so here is my thrid attempt at trying to get my blood knights to fight in my army.......*sigh*...
+1 Magic Level
Walachs bloody hauberk
Avatar of death (hand weapon and shield)
Hand of dust
Necromacer (im finally using one.....*grumble*)
Corpse cart w/balefire
+1 spell (invocationa and vanhels)
Book of arkhan
/1025 (yes i know its a bit much.....)
4x Blood Knights
Banner of hellfire
Tactics: Lord goes with the blood knights down onw flank to flank charge units/ or is aimed at units with regen (or treemen).. Necro on corpse cart follows in order to vanhel the unit in and keep the book close (and if all else fails it makes the knights ASF plus a -1 to cast to enemy wizards) the other vamp (with flayed hauberk) goes in the skeleton unit (with 19 models) and the vamp with hand of dust goes with the grave guard...the zombies guard the flank on the opposite side to the blood knights and are raised to 30/40 during turns one and two....hopefully......so what do you think???
Good luck, and may the dice gods smile upon you and smite your foes
An alternative approach:
Please don't immediately smite me for this but is it Absolutely Vital to have a full 4 characters. When I tried out my new Blood Knights, which were actually Chaos Knights with Grave Guard features, I just played it with 3 Vampire Characters in order to cut down cost.
I didn't have one of the vampires actually within the unit of Blood Knights though so I'm not sure how this would work in your approach.
The wins will come.
Do not worry i shall not smite you....however i have the necromancer purely for the guaranteed vanhels, the coprse cart i just so the necro is protected, the balefire is to put a -1 to cast on spells within 24" which may be targetted at the blood knights, the book is in case the cart falls behind or the knights need an extra puch and the black periapt is for the extra power dice the necro might need..(lets face it when i have the opportunity (spelling) to cast vanhels and invocation when will i not be casting them (rarely) )
SO while i would normally use 4 vampires i feel that the points will better be spent on the necromancer above
Good Luck, and may the dice gods smile upon you and smite your foes
I tried the list out against a brettonian player and i managed to pull off a draw....which im happy as i have never been able to do anything but lose against him
