Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi everyone! New to posting on the forum and have been out of the Warhammer game for 4 years now. Recently decided to start playing with a friend of mine and went for Vampire Counts. I was trying to go for a ghoul summoning list but did not like ghoulkin because i odnt think it would give me the time i needed to develop my ghoul units. Also, I will be facing a Tzeentch Chaos Warriors list that is fairly magic heavy. So here is the list i came up with for a 1250pt game. All input is welcome and very greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Book of Arkhan
Ghouls x 12
Ghouls x 11
Black Knights x 5
Standard and Musician
Banner of Barrows
Im thnking of leaving the vampire with the book of arkhan as a freelancer and let the other 2 vampires join the units of ghouls to help out in combat against those pesky warriors. If i am missing something or if anyone has some helpful reccomendations I would love to hear them!! Thanks!
You really dont have need for 3 vampires its just overkill seriously, the fact that they are all level 2 wizards make it completely worse
The black knight Varghulf combo is a nice choice theyll rip up the flanks.
I would say drop one vampire as you cannot have 2 vampires with flayed hauberk as its a magic item (power stone and dispel scrolls are exceptions) and replace it with a necromancer with an additional spell (invocation and raise dead best for your army as you have book of arkhan) and sceptre de noirot for that nice d3 + 9 zombies to stop the enemy
And most definately do not have that vampire in the open. He's the best one of the lot
Thanks for the input, i was worried because my opponent is fielding 3 casters with his tzeentch army and i wanted to make sure i could combat his dispel pool so that i would have enough to raise some ghouls. Thanks for the varg black knight praise. I love putting all my fast units on one side of the board to consolidate their forces. Again thank you and i will work on modifying my list. Was also wondering should i go ahead and put that necro on the corpse cart if i take him?
Definately its nice to keep your necromancer safe. If your opponent is going to go three casters with tzeentch then no matter what your gonna have trouble, as when it comes magic phase tzeentch will always dominate against vamps unless its 2k then it would be very close.
You could take the necro with one dispel scroll also just to keep him from casting the big spells.
And if you beleive a unit is in trouble from his magic missiles (Which you will) then just cast raise dead in front of the vulnerable unit just to make sure you dont take too much damage
thanks mirage for your helpful feedback. So i just received word that the guy i was playing with was using the old chaos rulebook that we played with many years ago, so he has to redo his army. I believe he is still using as many casters as he can possibly fit. my one main concern right now is magic missles with the small ghoul units i have and also not being able to get off any summon type spells. I think with the amount of units i have he may focus his attention more towards the varg and the knights but there is always the chance he will try and knock a unit out from the start i.e the ghouls. I think im going to go ahead and add a necro to the corpse cart because, one its a cool model and, two it will, as you say, keep him safe long enough to get done what he needs to get done and from the looks of it hold its own in cc if need be. Thanks again i was almost positive i couldnt take two flayed hauberks but decided to go ahead and put it on there anyway just because if i could i would if not its ok vampires tend to hold their own in cc especially at this points value. Im still woried about his magic phase, do you thinhk there is something i could tweak a little to help myself out or at this points level is this about all i can do other than dispell scroll for those must-dispell tzeentch spells? Thanks again for your close attention and criticism, it is greatly appreciated. I will definitely keep you informed as to the development of my army.
Well in 1250 the most dispel dice a VC army is 5, 6 with the periapt. The amount of Power dice in your army is 7 including the 2 pool dice. 8 with periapt. you can potentially use 3 of that on your necromancer which is great because your going to want to use those dice on raise dead and invocation 2 for the raise and 1 for the invocate.
I suggest using all your necromancer's spells first, after that you want to follow up with the invocates from the vampires on your ghouls. its recommended you use one dice for this as youve got a 67% chance to pass and you have no chance of miscasting. Then after 3 of them at least. (2 on your vamp without periapt and 1 with the other) you want to cast a bigger spell with the remaining dice as the odds are his dispel dice are gone or almost there by now. So ideally you want to go for a Gaze of Nagash against maruader units if he has or curse of years against the same.
With all of your raise dead rolls i suggest putting the unit in front of one of the units and out of the way from your gaze of nagash if you have.
If when rolling for your spells you come across a Wind of Undeath then unless your playing doubles or at least 1900 points then get rid of it for Raise Dead, that is the only spell you want to exchange unless of course you get summon undead horde twice.
And to tell you the truth, anymore scrolls and youre going over the top, and be sure to save a dice if you feel your in a bad position for your dispel dice. Other than that theres not much you can do to stop tzeentch magic in a low point game
