Vlad the impaler... err... von carstein
Isabella von carstein
Konrad von carstein
-BSB OR blood gem
-sword of kings
Grave guard x22 <--- vlad + isabella, 6x4
-banner of barrows
Grave guard x22 <--- Konrad + BSB, 6x4
Blood knights x4
Thoughts/comments/ideas? My other plan was to take Lord level Manfred with skull staff and lahmia gem (In which case I put him with isabella to heal the wound he pops on himself and a magic vamp in place of konrad), but that seems to A ) Break the theme and B ) seems like a total dick move.
Ill give you one thing the Von Carsteins are a bad ass family but there are a few things i see wrong with this list.
1st point Characters.) Vlad is a balanced character all around but u can make a Lord better for a lower points cost. And frankly vlad doesnt hit all that hard.
Isabella is just garbage honestly
Konrad is ok but a little cosly for havin no ward save
Make the Wight King a bsb if hes going in the Grave Guard
Over all what are u going to do for magic? Vlad is a level three, Isabella is a level 1, and the other two have no caster level, so u have 6 casting dice and 5 dispell dice, Casting Vamps and Casting Chaos can beat you into the ground in the magic phase.
2nd Point Core.) You are lacking here, zombies are only distraction and cannon fodder they cant do much else.
Ghouls are a good unit but only ten? they seem like a point filler because ten ghouls wont do u good because u cant raise new units.
3rd point Special.) Seems like you are putting all of your eggs in one basket here two unit on the table that make most of the points and i can ignore anything else. If u face a gun line or anything with offensive magic ur screwed.
4th point Rare.) you NEED the blood knights if ur going to get any advantage because right now ur slow as hell!!! I can tell ur going for a Von Carstein theme so here is what i run.
This is what i run if i do Von Carstein theme
Sword of Kings
Walachs Bloody Hauberk
Avatar of Death(shield)
master of the Black Arts
The Flayed Hauberk
Book of Arkhan
2x15 skeletons full command(except champions)
3x5 Dire Wolves
5 Black Knights
5 Black Knights
5 Blood Knights
Deamons of Chaos (21,0,1)
Vampire Counts (54,6, 11)
Warriors of Chaos (11,2,4)
Several things wrong with your suggestions.
vlad + isabella: 3 words... THEME, FRENZY, and HATRED
Vamp lord: why sword of kings? A basic 25 pt killing blow sword is wasted on a lord. And he's magic heavy.
Heroes: again, why magic heavy? von carsteins were known for their combat prowess, not their summoning skills. This would only make sense for a necrarch theme
core: yes I took minimum core on purpose. Zombies are tar pits. And I have NO IDEA why you wouldn't take skellie champions. they're the first thing that gets raised, so you can basically challenge every single turn. 15 skellies with a champion can hold a bloodthirster in place for well past 6 turns (if he gets no help, and the raise keeps going off). Zombies are not cannon fodder AT ALL as nobody cares about them.
Special: Yeah they cost a lot of points, these are the blocks that get the job done. Great weapon grave guard with +1 hit and vlad and isabella heading the front (isabella up there to die if anyone is dumb enough to kill her on purpose, if not she heals vlad).
rare: What's wrong with wraiths? with exception given to armies with magical troops and monsters, they can do as much if not more damage than blood knights, especially if the knights don't break the unit they hit. They're also ethereal and next to impossible to gun down. and more maneuverable.
Thanks for offering your tips, but I'm going a totally different direction with the army, no more help needed here
Manfredd was not known for his Combat prowess was he
