I know it's really short notice as I'm playing this guy tomorrow but I could really do with some advice on this list. I have no idea what to play against him. However, I'm pretty sure what he's likely to play.
But first, the list:
Lucien Feorn: Dark Acolyte, Lord of the Dead, the Flayed Hauberk, Black Periapt. -
Goes in the 18-man Skele unit.
Lily Feorn: Dark Acolyte, Lord of the Dead, Book of Arkhan -
Goes in the 19-man Skele unit.
Lord of the Barrows: Great Weapon, the Drakenhoff Banner. -
Goes in the GG.
19x Skeletons: FC, HW/SH, Warbanner. -
18x Skeletons: FC, HW/SH -
19x Graveguard: Great Weapons, Banner of the Barrows -
5 Dire Wolves
So, from experience playing him I know he should play something like this:
Tooled up Scar Veteran - Runs around alone with the Level 5 Bound Spell that allows 20" movement if cast. Has a 2+ Armour save and a fair few attacks.
Skink Priest - Also alone, hides between units
2x 20 Sauras with FC
2x Skink units (Roughly 10 man)
3 Kroxigor (usually he runs a pack of razordons but as he's just started playing he wants to try these out.)
10 Temple Guard - Hoping he'll keep these the same but mentioned he might chop and change to make them a larger unit.
I was toying with the idea of running a unit of wraiths but as he's an 'argumentative' player to say the least I don't want to cause problems over the EOTG causing magical hits. Therefore, I've decided not to use wraiths.
This is gonna be tough, the skellies will be demolished by the sauri, the gg is nice but 550p is overkill I think, it would be really annoying if a few skinks block the gg
you could try to kill the skink priest (on the stegadon) with the varghulf,
and pray u get curse of years
The skeles are a problem but I'm hoping the Vamps will do enough damage. Of course, I'll be hoping for the charge.
I know what you mean, it'd be the first time I've ever run the Death Star GG unit (even though it doesn't have the helm) but I just don't know what else to take.
1500p is really hard vs lizardmen, it's really hard without a vampire lord,
and at 2k, I think a fast aggressive army would be the best to crack open their scaly skins
using for example:
- combat-monster vampire lord on hellsteed (could consider using a dragon against lizardmen)
- blood knights
- black knights with strigoi banner
- fell bats and dire wolves
you're going to have troubles at this point level vs. lizards for sure...
but I'd trim the points on your grave guard - it's a huge portion of your army that he wouldn't have to fight at all to win... if he flanks your skellie unit with the general or concentrates fire on it, it wouldn't be too difficult to pop the unit (especially with the flank option)... he has mobility on you, has ranged fire, and tougher combat troops...
To beat this list I think you'd really need fast hitting combat... magic is too unreliable, easily countered by the lizzies, and you just don't get enough at this point level, and they get to throw three dice at psychology!
I'd agree with Zatarra on combat oriented vamps, with fast and hard hitting troops...
I'd go with a couple of blocks of ghouls (with ghoulkin), some mounted vamps, vargulf and black knights (although wraiths are a monster at this point level - but I hear what you're saying about not wanting an argument)
You want to hit him fast, and hit him hard.
The scouting infinite hatred vamp idea might be a good choice (with the tailsman of lycni and armor of night, sword of might) to assasinate that skink on top of the EOTG... He'd have a fair chance of chopping that skink to bits with a little luck (okay the steggie's a problem, but without the priest the engine doesn't work anymore!)
