Vampire Lord: Magic Level, Master of the Black Arts, Forbidden Lore, Summon Ghouls, Helm of Commandment, Book of Arkhan - 420pts
Vampire: Dark Acolyte, Summon Ghouls, Dispel Scroll, Dispel Scroll - 195pts
Weight King: BSB - 125pts
17 Crypt Ghouls - 136pts (vampire goes here)
10 Crypt Ghouls - 80pts (lord goes here. stays out of combat)
17 Crypt Ghouls, Ghast - 144 pts
2 Corpse Carts: Balefire - 200 pts
5 Dire Wolves - 50 pts
19 Grave Guards: Musician, Standard, Royal Standard of Strigos, Great Weapons - 300pts
Varghulf - 175
3 Cairn Wraiths: Banshee - 175
So this is my second list (first was just awful, new to warhammer) and i wanted to play on the magic element of vampire counts (raising dead and creating limitless hordes). I put the ghouls to do most of the killing, along with ASF GW GG. My lord stays out of combat and just casts spells and gives a unit WS7. I pick a lore to anti my enemy (usually lizardmen), and use the wraiths to kill low leadership enemies/ tie up enemies that cant kill ethereal.
Any help or comments are appreciated.
Overall the List looks good Well Done! Here comes the comments:
Hope It Helps!
- Your characters looks strong. I would suggest, that instead of taking a Wight King you should field another Vampire with Ghoulkin... When playing a Ghoul Army, that feat is unbelievable, while playing a BSB without a Magic Banner isn't that unbelievable HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA You gave me a big laugh for that "Weight King" Hahaha xD He must be an obese bastard to get that title Hahahahaha
- Core looks good Great having two CCs with BF...
- Place your Lord along with the GGs instead. It will make your opponent want to charge that unit, that he otherwise would have ignored. When enemy units are closing in, run away with Him - they are stuck, mouhahahaha
a) always cast your corpse carts & a staff of damnation (if you took it) first! your opponent will not want your entire battle line to gain ASF... but you've got a vanhel's or three up your sleve hopefully that will still give you ASF and also re-rolls to boot! (it's like a corpse cart, only it's even better!!!)
b) try for a magic missile spell right off the bat too... especially against T3 armies, they'll throw dispel dice/scrolls at those 2D6/S4 spells before you can even blink! once they've foolishly wasted their dice/scrolls on your bait spells, well, it's time to have some fun!
c) always throw a single dice at invocation if the caster has a summoning power... just beware of a chaos warrior opponent hiting you with the black tounge + infernal puppet combo... it might mean that should you fail to cast, your vampire will likely explode... (stupid chaos!)
d) vanhel's is your most important spell! knowing when & how to use it will win you games!
e) lore of beasts or death makes for a great 'default' lore on your lord. best thing to do is to roll up your spells on your other casters first! as long as you get say 2-3 vanhel's for the battle, i find you're better off taking a rulebook lore with your lord...
bear's anger + beast cowers + wolf hunts = pure carnage. )your lord effectively becomes a dragon w/bear's anger for example!)
walking death + doom and darkness + steal soul = RUN AWAY!!! even elves & lizards will play at being skaven under a constant barrage of -3Ld terror tests!
hope this helps,
Hey guys thanks for the input i really appreciate it
1st off my bsb didnt have a banner because i read somewhere that if u lose your standard bearer you can always revive him back, but if u lose a character hes gone for good, so being in the grave guard unit anyways i put the banner on the grave guard instead of the bsb.
now my problem is that i have exactly 2000 points, so im thinking of making my vampires more geared for combats
Vampire Lord: Master of the Black Arts, Forbidden Lore, Summon Ghouls, Biting Blade, Flayed Hauberk, Book of Arkhan, Dispel scroll (removed from vampire) - 395pts
Vampire: Dark Acolyte, Summon Ghouls, Dispel Scroll, Sword of Battle - 185
Now its either
Wight King: Sword of Kings, Nightshroud - 120 --> leaning towards this, more resilient in combat, and 25 points cheaper
Vampire: Avatar of Death, Ghoulkin - 145
Wolves are dropped, didnt think about using the Wraiths for their job. since they're gone i can add another wraith. The rest of my list will look like this:
17 Crypt Ghouls: Ghast - 144pts
10 Crypt Ghouls: Ghast - 88pts
17 Crypt Ghouls: Ghast - 144 pts
2 Corpse Carts: Balefire - 200 pts
19 Grave Guards: Musician, Standard, Banner of the Barrows, Great Weapons - 310pts
Varghulf - 175
4 Cairn Wraiths: Banshee - 225
Total 1986 with Wight lord/ 2011 with vampire (can just remove ghouls for him to fit)
Thanks for all the help you guys look any better now?
I vote for Vampire
BUT! You do still use Vamp slots for the Scrolls... I would say, field no more than one Scroll, or have a Necro with two Then, ofc, you need to cut points elsewhere
My problem is though i mostly face a magic heavy lizardmen list (slann) so im a bit worried about his spells going through.
Do you think my list can counter-act magic enough to drop the scrolls?
Alright im gonna drop the dispel scroll on the Vampire and replace it with The Cadaverous Cuirass, and place the Ghoulkin Vampire instead of the Wight King (dropping 1 ghoul to make him fit).
Thanks for all the help
Try it See for yourself how you like the list, and make changes as you learn the Army
