Welcome to Librarium Online!
this is the list i am going to submit for the 2000 points level of a local challenge board, it is adapted from the 1500 points one that has done very well so far.
Vampire lord- master of the black arts, dark acolyte, lord of the dead, skull staff, helm of command ment (445)
Vampire- BSB, dread knight, drakenhof banner (275)
Wight king- barded steed, sword of kings, accursed armor (145)
6 Blood knights- full command, kastellen w/the gem of blood, flag of blood keep (480)
7 Black knights- Barding, full command, banner of the barrows (281)
10 skeletons- full command, spears, warbanner (135)
8 dire wolves- doom wolf (74)
9 PD, 4 DD
the bsb goes with the blood knights, the wight king of course goes with the black knights and the general goes with the full command skeleton unit, the other 2 skeleton units are for table quarters, distraction, and the dire wolves are there to control the frenzied blood knights (or at least try to)
tell me what you think
i'd also lose the BSB upgrade + drakenhof banner (heresy, i know) to add more numbers to your starting skeleton units... (start 'em at 15-18 strong).
since your lord is so squishy, (being naked and all!) get a unit of 10-12 ghouls + ghast to act as a bunker.
if possible, i'd also aim to get a necro w/scrolls in there since your magic defense plainly sucks. or else you could try for a corpse cart w/balefire. right now, even though you do have a +1 dispel due to your staff, 4 DD will stop shit all against any army that's running more than scroll caddies!
also, i don't see how you're going to keep your helm of commandment in range of your fighty units without seriously exposing your general... i'd instead of the helm, go for a fightier set-up with say a ward save (walach's bloody hauberk is a good source) and a nice killy sword! use your general's unit as bait, hold the enemy's charge, and then whack his flanks with the blood knights/black knights! as long as you've got a champion in the skellie unit, your general is safe from any enemy challenges!
hope this helps,
i will start off saying thank you for your advice, it is always welcome.
my vampire lord setup although naked, is one of the best i have used, the setup you suggest, is better at countering an enemy's strength by choosing exaclty the spells you need, but that isn't my lords purpose. it is to use 8 dice per phase to cast IoN on my 3 units, the black knights, blood knights, and warbanner toting skeletons, and to stay behind the lines out of combat to pass on his WS, mostly to the black knights.
the wight king suggestion is very good, he is cheaper, and tougher. so i will have to reconsider that.
my wightking setup, has worked very well so far. he is only ws 1, but still always hits on a 4+ because of the banner, and if my lord is within range to pass on his ws, well then he hits almost everything on 2+ and T6 is awesome on him because most hero's are only S5.
the blood knight unit has worked very well just like it is. and if you look in the army book on page 64, the blood knight kastellan has a cursed book. so i am assuming that he can take the gem of blood.
the barding on the black knights is big for me, because i roll horribly. every little bit helps. and it dosn't slow them down for me terribly. i will definetly think about this though
both bare skeleton units are just table quarter holders, and maybe a bunker for my lord, if i need one.
and i like the bigger units of direwolves if i can i normally run 10, as i find them very effective in that size.
the bsb is all essential to this build as the star unit is the blood knights. giving them regeneration means that they can wither a charge with some success, and well they are not getting shot to death so they are gonna get to combat, and they are nasty there.
again thank you for your advice, i might change the list a little bit, the second wight king but probably not as i am already proxying the first wight king with a vampire model while i wait for mine to come in the mail. i will let you know how some of the games go.

just in case anybody was interested, i played 2 games with this list so far, one against some wood elves which i won by massacre, and the other against dark elves that was at least a solid victory, both games i ended up losing the black knights and one unit of bare skeletons. the warbanner unit not only held it's own but ran down dryads and corsairs. the blood knights where hard to control but luckily i rolled danse for my bsb's spell and he somehow rolled above a 9 4 out of 5 casting attempts. the only thing i need to fit in is another unit of dire wolves which are awesome.
