Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok my friend started playing vampire counts and got me into all the fluff.
Now i have decided to start a vampire army built around a conversion i am planning using Belakors wings
so a big nasty flying fear causer!
We are going to run a vamp vs vamp campaign with a lot of back story and before anyone posts complaining about vamp vs vamp we do realise that combats will be a bit odd :/
So yeah the list, bear in mind it is designed for vamp vs vamp and around a really bestial fluffy feel but i want it to be competitive too.
Avatar of Death
Periapt of Darkness (i think thats what its called)
Gem of blood
10 Ghouls with ghast
5 Dire Wolves
5 Dire Wolves
3 Fell Bats
very cool idea! it kinda puts me in mind of the fall of the strigos clan - how all the other ancient bloodlines turned on this once noble line of vampires and led to the strigos degeneration into slavering, hate-filled monsters!
as for your list, here's how i see it;
- your vampire. i'd drop the flying horror for now and give him the talisman of the lycni... not quite flying, but storywise, it could represent your main vamp's early beginings, where his powers aren't yet fully apparent and are still growing?!
i'd also drop the gem of blood - if it fails, your general dies! not good at all.
with the pts saved, you can get the dark acolyte upgrade for a bit more magical prowess, and perhaps a killy sword?! or else give him a great weapon and the enchanted shield for a well-rounded killing machine!
basically, i'd try out this set-up: dark acolyte, avatar of death w/heavy armour & great weapon, enchanted shield, talisman of the lycni, "other item".
you'll get solid milage out of this guy!
- i'd also drop 1 unit of dogs to add to your ghouls... with only 10 per unit and no ability to raise more, you'll need some numbers... i'd make 1 unit at least 14 strong. run 'em 7 wide to max-out your base-to-base contacts and thus your attacks...
- the fell bats... not really sold on them, since just 3 are fairly ineffectual. they don't have the unit strength to negate ranks, and a single magic missile spell can really murder them!
perhaps use those pts for yet more ghouls and the added equipment on your vamp? or else another unit of dogs...
overall 500pts vampire armies are pretty simple! 1 vamp + 2 core is pretty much all you'll get.
anyways, i hope this helps,
Im going to give the vamp summon creatures of the night now to up the wolfs and fell bats.
possibility of dropping a unit of dogs to up the fell bats to 4 (i just think these things fit the fluff so well so im very reluctant to drope em) nd a unit of ghouls to 14 (after dropping the ghast.
With summon creature of the night i could use all my dice every magic phase so the black pirapt seems useless now which frees up more points to beef out the ghouls or for another magic item.
I have a month to get this army up at present i have my nicely converted vamp (A dark elf hero with deamon prince wings) and i have 10 fell bats (Ghouls with Gargoyle wings).
So theres plenty of room for list improvement before i by the rest and plenty of time before the first game so id much appreciate any more advice any one has to offer, particularly in a vamp vs vamp situation.
