faced off against a dwarven gunline, dogs of war, and warriors of chaos tzeentch list. made alot of mistakes against the dwarven gunline, primarily letting him say that his wrath and ruin slows down my wraiths and spirit hosts, which it dosn't means i would have had a second turn charge as opposed to getting wiped out but i still managed a draw. Dogs of war were tabled with no losses in return and the chaos were tabled only losing the varghulf. I have to say that the lack of losses against the chaos player was because of my outstanding luck with the banshee, i got box cars twice against his 2 5 man knight units

first off congrats on staying unbeaten! not any easy task by any means, and typically we do really suffer vs the likes of chaos warriors, lizzies, high elves & daemons, so kudos sir!
i'll admit i'm a little suprised that the dwarf gunline didn't drop at least 1 unit of skellies though on turn 1 since they're starting so small... typically i won't start units below 13/14 just to ensure that even if i face some focused fire, i'll still have at least one or two models left to begin the res-fest!
also, have you ever thought of swaping out your lord's acolyte power for forbidden lore? i've found that the 5 power dice + mutable magic lores is far, far superior to the 6PD + 4 vamp spells... lore of metal makes those silly chaos warriors squirm, while death magic wrecks elves! (not to mention that beast or shadow magic does terrible things to them lizzies!!!)
for your book of arkhan vampire, have you thought of trying this set-up; acolyte + avatar w/great weapon, BoA, enchanted shield.
it's a nice mix of killy & staying power since you can go for S7 at an oppertune moment, or else gain a 2+ save with your sword & magic board! it's worked wonders for my own vamps, so now i never leave the crypt without it!
Against the gunline i probably might have lost a unit of skeletons on the first turn if he didn't devote all of his shooting to put 11 wounds on my spirit hosts, i didn't lose any skeleton units until i had a magic phase in which i only got off 4 IoN's on the lead skellie unit and then rolled 2 1's and a 2 for models raised and then he rolled very well with his organ gun.
I have used the forbidden lore lord, I experimented with it a bunch, the reason i stick with my version is that my general has 3 jobs to do and that is raise models, cast danse at the crucial moment, and pass of his WS where i need to win combat. Although i did love melting enemies and causing much devistation with him which he did do with that combo i found it to be less useful in the big picture. First off i roll very very badly, if my lord with a +2 to cast invo gets off 3 of them with 8 dice i am doing ok, there have been many many phases where i rolled 6 1's and 2's with my lord, so knowing that also know that i really hate losing because of a miscast, so that said i really don't cast with more than one die unless i have to. So 6 dice to raise skeletons is what i stick with and try to keep him out of combat.
Hmmm, the avatar combo i have thought about, but i was corrected on its use, when you take magic armor or a weapon you always have to use it so taking the great weapon is useless as you always have to use the magic shield you bought. Another reason i take her like she is is she stays right next to my lord and she makes a very enticing un armored target, plus i like having as many vampires as i can that can raise above starting strength as that is what my army is about, if she couldn't and i play against high elves or dwarves and get my lords IoN broken or otherwise taken away on the first turn, then i have one vampire with a max of 5 dice that can keep my army going.
Thank you very much for the input and ideas, they go along way to helping me come up with more inovative lists. Which i have to do as my normal lists are not gonna fly at adepticon, i just did the comp score on this one right here and it was at around -1900 and they said they where hoping nobody was below 2000 the magic restraints really mess with the res heavy undead lists.
as well, the great weapon/enchanted shield combo does indeed work! it's only magic weapons that must be used at all times. you do not have to always use the enchanted shield - the magic armour rules simply point out how you can combine magical & normal armour... (i just checked pg121 BRB to be sure!)
i really like the enchanted shield/great weapon/BoA combo simply because it's one of the safest ways to protect your best magic item - the book! (only other way for a hero level vamp to get the book & a 2+ save is to take the dread knight power)
plus it's a nasty surprise when all of a sudden you can get a vanhel's off in combat and then go to town with ASF + S7 for kicks!
comp systems like those simply smack of careless play and then whining that 'army x is broken because i don't want to change my tactics'! armies are designed to work in certain ways - for us it's alot of magic and raising larger numbers of troops! gimping those built-in strengths is silly and unsportman-like IMHO because it's basically saying to those players, "we want you to come and compete, but we're doing this to your army so that it's far inferior because we think your army is stupid and broken."
sorry for the rant!!!
good luck at adepti-con, maybe you could post up your list along with the restrictions and we can all see how to get a good res army out of 'em?!
