Hm. While I only have a theoretical knowledge on which to judge this (and my occasionally faulty memory) I'm thinking... you might be alright.
Against Orcs and Goblins you're likely to have an advantage in the magic phase, so your 'Lord of the Dead' equipped Vampires can spend the first turn or two beefing up the skeleton units. That should give you enough to absorb any big hits to your core units when you do get in to combat.
If you were looking to trim a few points, though... that Vampire Lord seems a bit confused to me. You're kitting him out for both magic and combat... which I guess is fine, but I can't help but wonder if you'd be better off specialising a little more, maybe leaning towards a more magic heavy build and allowing you to free up a few more points. Just an idea, and not necessarily a good one.
Yeah i had that thought but i kitted him out to support my army a little with magic but also make use of his awsome profile on the front lines, i dont really like one-trick ponies because they always seem to fail for me
thanks for the suggestions anyways, keep them coming.
I like the Lord build However, I would recommend a few changes to Vampire 1 (would have been handy with a name on him ). Swap the Talisman of Protection for Talisman of the Lycni. Swap Nightshroud for the Armour of Night. Now you have a perfect War Machine/Wizard/Skirmish Hunter that can summon Ghouls
The rest of the list looks good IMO. Wait... One thing! Split your Dire Wolves units into four with five models in each
Aaaaaand... Could you submit any "over-all tactics"? Would help alot when commenting the list, so I could comment the tactic too, hehe.
Vlad and the BSB form a solid core in the centre with the grave guard
vamp lord unit and konrad unit on one side of the grave guard (konrad being the closest to the general), with vamp 2 unit behind the lines along with the corpse cart as supporting units with magic and possibly supporting charges if needs be.
Vamp 1 goes with the ghouls unit on the other side of vlads unit so i have a four unit wide battleline, the dire wolves are screens for the varghulfs forming symetrical flanks, just to protect my own flanks of the main battleline.
The idea is to raise stuff for the first 2-3 turns hopefully to at least 20+ each, apart from vlad who will just do what he wants (hopefully the fifth spell)
Yeah so thats basically(!) it, thats why i equipped vamp 1 as i did
Hope this helps....!?
Be sure to check your list an additional time before you set off Try to trim the points as much as possible. I can't help you more than that right now
I don't like using special characters cause I think generally they are overpowered for their points. However, if you are gonna go that route I would say you should keep a theme. Get Manfred and Isabella then you have vlad's real horde! i'm thinking of doing this just cause the theme is so strong
I made an army list with all 4 von carsteins in and was just thinking of posting it recently.
however, my thinking was;
Konrad is cheap and can be amazing in combat so he was the first on the team sheet everytime for me- hes just fun to use
with Vlad, it was a late decision that led me to replace a vamp lord with him as hes nigh on indistructable, just what i want from my general.
So, do you agree or are there better options that i have overlooked?(regarding the general-Konrad is going nowhere!)
Look forward to your reply
hmm, this list is gonna need an overhaul for 8th edition isnt it?
