Against my friends advice, I've decided to start up a VC army. He tells me that they suck now in 8th edition, but I aim to prove him wrong. Our first battle will be in about a week, at 1000 points. Please tell me what you guys think about this list:
Heroes : 250
Wight King (General)
Vampire lvl 1
Forbidden lore (Lore of Vampires)
Core : 281
30 Skeletons w/ spears
Special : 267
16 Grave Guard
Banner of the barrows
Rare : xxx
Yes, my opponent is cool with being 3 points over. We typically agree that its ok as long as the value you're over is less than half of that of your least expensive model. So 3 points over is ok.
The idea is to have the Wight go with the Grave guard, BSB with the skeletons. This way, both units can always march (unless the characters get sniped). Summon undead horde of zombies and try to danse them into the flank/rear of a unit. If that fails, there's always Curse of years on his biggest unit. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Well, I lost. I don't know if its because of the list, or because my friends dice were on fire.
He played warriors of chaos, and first turn he was able to irresistable flickery fire on my vargulf. 7 S7 flaming hits against my T5 beasty. needless to say, vargulf didn't make it to turn 2. after that, i just didn't have any support or deterant. Unobstructed on that flank because beasty was gone, my spears with the bsb got nailed by two units of 30 maruaders. grave guard had to go take out his chaos knights since vargulf was dead and couldn't do it anymore, and it all just went down hill from there.
I was able to take out all his knights, one of his sorcerers, and one unit of maruaders. I didn't have a single unit on the table, thanks to the general's unit poofing in combat res vs mauraders, taking the general with them. Crumble followed, and by the end I didn't have jack diddly left.
My thoughts: Still too small of a game to really get the feel for the vampires. Also, would have been MUCH different if beasty hadn't died first turn. Would have charged him into the lone sorc on disk (the one that managed to kill him) and really turned the tide in my favor. But then again, thats all this game really is.... who gets luckier first. Spears..... well.... suck. 1 point less I can take ghouls, get the same number of attacks (A2 on ghouls in the front rank cancels out extra rank from spears), have all attacks be poison, and have T4.... sure, I lose the armor save, but how often is a 6 up really going to save you? i think i'd rather just have the T4 and suffer less wounds. So Ghouls it is from now on, until i find some other reason not to.
