So my General and BSB both go in the Grave Guard unit. I've considered dropping the Ogre Blade for the Sword of Kings and The Other Trickster's Shard, what do you think?
The other Lord I chose a Lv4 for dispel attempts, and will probably just use the Lore of Vampires for FL. That way I have 3 chances to get VDM, which alongside ION will be the majority of the spells I try to cast. He goes with the Necromancer inside the smaller unit of Ghouls. Because all my spells are easy to cast, I brought the Black Coach to help suck up PD. I can adjust my own magic phase accordingly with the Black Periapt. The Necromancer also has a Dispel Scroll just in case.
The larger unit of Ghouls and the Skeletons are my main core fighting units. Hopefully I'll be able to buff them with the Helm and VDM to hold up whatever they're fighting until the calvary arrives. Do you think I should make the Skeletons my bunker instead and have 2 units of Ghouls to fight?
I went with the Blood Knights mostly because I love their storyline. I am a little worried they could be destroyed too easily so I gave them the Banner of Blood Keep to protect them. Once they get to close combat, the Vampire with the Blood Drinker sword should be able to keep them up & running.
I am also a little worried about having no real war machine hunters.
So what do you think are this lists strengths & weaknesses?
I'll assume your 35 ghouls will be in horde formation? I've tried all grades of units in horde formation: Ghouls, skeletons, dwarf warriors, HE spears, the list goes on. NOTHING that I have tried performs better than the ghouls. The main benifit is the poison attacks. Couple that with a re-roll via CC, VDM, or lore of light, and you have twice as many chances for poison. I played a 7,000 today with a horde of ghouls that had a combat lord and a wight BSB. Took out two units of mauraders, two units of chaos warriors, two chaos lords, and a warshrine or two. Definitly the MVP of the game. I would suggest switching the ogre blade to the blade of strfe however. S7 is fine and dandy if you're planning on facing big things. But S5 is more than enough in most cases. And the extra two attacks coupled with infinate hatred and red fury makes a mean combo.
Try to squeeze xxxx points for a minimum sized unit of fell bats. I've found them amazing at taking out war machines. If nothing else, your opponent will be scared that they'll take out the war machines, and concentrate fire on the bats rather than your real units. xxxx points is well worth the distraction if nothing else. And if you happen to pick off a lone character or war machine, they're just that much more likely to earn back their points.
I'll give the Fell Bats a try, but damn are they expensive $$! I massacred a Bretonnian army because he ran all four of his knight units into the Grave Guard and with the Helm & ION they ate them all, with a little help from the Black Coach towards the end. The Necromancer didn't do a thing for me, the dispel scroll came in handy but I don't think I really needed it. I could drop him & add 4 bats. I'll have 6 points left over, so I might shuffle my support character's items and try to bulk up my core. I discovered a weakness in my build, regen saves can't be used against Killing Blow, and had my General not been quicker he might have got KB'd by the Bret General. It could be a problem if I face a unit with Killing Blow, like Bloodletters or Tomb Guard. I appreciate the advice....
