Necromancer- Spetre de Noirte, IoN, and Raise Dead 95
15x Crypt Ghouls- Ghast 128
15x Crypt Ghouls- Ghast 128
8x Dire Wolves- Doom wolf 90
3x Fell Bats 60
Grand total: 501. Its my first attempt at an army but I figured I would hide my necro in one of the units of ghouls and summon zombies to tar pit units till my ghouls reach them. And use the wolves and bats as flanking units. Comments, criticism, and suggestions welcome. Thanks
I have never played at less than 1000 points, so I don't know what would work and what wouldn't at that level. However, here are some general observations:
You need a vampire to be your general. It was originally written out when the 8th edition FAQ said to ignore whatever that page is, but has since been errata'ed to ignore the entire page EXCEPT the part where a vampire must be the general. That is going to make it very difficult to play at 500 points with vampire counts. only 25% of your army can be in characters, so for 500 points that means you get 125. Which means you get your one vampiire, and he'll have to be practically naked.
I don't think the wolves will do any good at all, so I'd scrap them. There's not enough of them to survive instability, and thier WS/S/T are all too low to be viable. But as stated above, smaller poitn values may lead to smaller unit sizes that wolved might actually be able to hold thier own against for a round or two. The bats I would normally take, but only for war machines and lone characters. At this scale, you won't find many war machines, or lone characters, so I'd scrap the bats.
My first thought was to get a unit of skeletons for the banner, in case you rolled blood and gory. But when I think about it, you'd need two standards to be any better off, and you just don't have room for that at 500. So take the extra points you'll get back from the bats, wolves, and necromancer to get yourself a vampire hero with avatar of death and been each ghoul unit as evenly as possible. Or you can beef one bigger than the other, and try to force your opponent to take on the larger one and flank with the smaller.
Drop the wolves and bats all together.
In small games we struggle as out poor fighting units still cost quite a bit, and we need to compensate this fact by keeping what we do have alive and in fighting condition. small units are poor as we generaly dont possess the ability to increase thier number and a lucky volley from and enemy unit will wipe them out entirely, which greatly reduces your tacticaly abilities in a game. drop the small units and take big units (relatively speaking in 500pts). maybe swap the bats for more wolves in the unit or swap both units for a big zomnie unit.
The big units of ghouls look fine. i would like to have a vampire in the list but will just have to make do with a necro as your limited to 25% opn heroes.
honestly, don't even try to build an army untill you hit 1000pts.
vamps are a high fantasy army by their very nature, so they simply are unplayable at those extremely low pts values. (they actually weren't even designed to do so!) for the most part, vamps are very difficult to play untill you hit the 1500pts mark, at which point you can take those bigger core units and get your vampire + necro or two in there to help support your troops.
