Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have recently returned to the game having not played for some time due to work and being abroad.
I used to play undead before they were split between Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts and left the game not too long afterwards.
Below is what I was planning for a 2000pt army for general play at local clubs with the idea of winning of course but without following a true cookie cutter spec.
I would definitely appreciate some advice as the rules have changed a lot.
Vampire Lord (in unit of Skeleton Warriors)
Avatar of Death
Lord of the Dead
Wristbands of Black Gold
Necromancer (in Skeleton Warrior Unit)
Sceptre de Noirot
Wight King (in Grave Guard Unit)
Battle Standard Bearer
Royal Standard of Strigos
23 Skeleton Warriors
19 Skeleton Warriors
10 Dire Wolves
19 Grave Guard
Army Total 2000pts
First off, welcome back! Always good to see another brother of the night.
To add insult to injury, the new 'step-up' + 'unstable' rules have turned all of our core, bare ghouls into the most over-costed crap in the game!
Now iff you're just playing for fun, ask your opponents if you can use the new tomb king skeleton costs, since that will really help make the game more fun & fair for everyone involved... (ie: TK skellies are dropping to just 4pts base! Gives you an idea of how badly they fare now doesn't it?!)
With a skeleton-based army, you'll find that magic is key to the game. You really need to hit your skellies with a buff spell or three to make them combat-decent. Spells like vanhel's danse, speed of light + birona's timewarp (light), the glittering robe + enchanted blades (metal), wyssan's wildform (beasts) and/or flaming sword (fire), all can make a huge difference!
Taking a vampire thrall with the helm of commandment is also quite prudent. Giving a unit of skeleton's WS6 will mean they can actually fight worth a damn!
Anyways, I hope this helps! And don't get too discouraged if you find that your undead 'legions' get thumped for the most part... When we do win - especially without falling back onto our only decent list, it just means we outplayed our opponent that much more!
It's always more fun to win as the under-dog anyways!
