Two Vamps in with Skeletons flanked by Crypt Ghouls on one side and Crypt Horrors on the other with the Hex wraiths providing some hard cover out front.
Varghulf and Hex wraiths for running down smaller units and taking out ranged.
I'm playing Empire tomorrow I'll let you know how this works out.
Well this list provided me my first win with the new book. The magic phases were some of the best I've ever had in the game. With the two mages casting our hits/wound buffs in almost every round. I was able to cast wind of un-death to draw out a dispel scroll in the first round which I was hoping for. With the reroll lowest power dice I never had less than 8 dice. I had taken lore of Beasts for the +1 st/to signature spell I never was able to cast this spell without it getting dispelled or miscasting. The Varghulf worked great to take out a mortar but got shot with a cannon. The Mortis Engine was great I only had one low roll on distance for regeneration in round two. I was in combat round two with my skeletons and caused a failed break test which saw one unit run off the table. The ghouls were great in a pack of 20 I didn’t think they were going to be that powerful they took out a core unit with Priest which had 3 more ranks. The rerolls really helped with that. I had really bad placement with my Crypt horrors and they never saw combat as they fell behind my lord’s presence. The Hex wraiths ate a spell and lost 4 riders but lived to take out the cannon. I was a fun game which has me feeling good about my Vamps again.
The Varghiest are stand ins for Cyrpt Horrors

Thanks for posting this, I was curious to see how you did!
A few questions:
- Did you find the BSB worth having? I know 25 points isnt that much but do you think not having it would have changed the outcome?
- Will you continue to take crypt horrors? (Might just be an isolated incident but it sounds like vargheists would have served you better.)
- Did you take the blasphemous tome on your mortis engine?
- Did you find that one invocation was enough to sustain your army? (It sounds like he was using his dispell dice on other spells)
The bsb was worth it, but I did keep forgetting that I lose one less on combat resolution. The crypt horrors didn't get a fair shake but yeah vargheists would have been much better for this game. About the casting I never raised in any round I was very aggresive but yeah I did have the tome upgrade which rocks. Level 4 plus two on casting our lore spells very nice combo.
Yeah I love the engine with the tome, while I only take a couple level 2's, giving them +4 to cast is way to good. I dont think I'll play a game without it!
