So, after Sunday's battle with proxies, I am dead set on buying some VC models as soon as I have money and fielding a "real" army and trying to play in some tournaments at my local store. To that end, I've put together a 1000 point list that I hope will be mildly competitive. Any help with the list will be appreciated, along with any buying/building tips. Thanks in advance! :)
-Master of the Dead
-Talisman of Preservation
-Armor of Destiny
2 x 15 Zombies
17 Skeletons (Characters will go here)
What do you guys think? I'll probably protect the Skellie flanks with the zombies, boosting all three units with Invocations whenever possible. Also, how many Zombies/Skeletons do you guys think I should buy? I was thinking 50 zombies and 30 skeletons. Will that be enough?
Finally, is there anywhere that I can buy just bases for them? A friend of mine told me he has some extra skeletons, but he doesn't have bases for them. Thanks again!
A few things:
Zombies have a minimum unit size of 20 models.
You should try and fit aura of dark majesty on your vampire, it really helps the fear bomb.
I would not recommend you put both characters in the same unit; try putting your necro in with a unit of zombies
Other than that it looks pretty good. You will have a hard time against armies that are immune to fear though. As for buying zombies and skeletons, you can never have to many zombies, but I find 50 skeletons is enough for even bigger games as I just run one unit of them all and never take master of the dead. Anyway, it really depends on what lists you run and what point levels you plan to build up to.
Hope this helps
There are a few big points I want to make on this list. First being, you are taking a master necromacer - a model whose base cost is 1/4th of your army cost AND an additional vampire. This is by far too much character investment for such a small game. At 1000pts, if you want to win, you dont want to take anything higher than a vampire and even there I would suggest going with a wight king because he is a lot more resilient. If you want a necro, take a normal necro dont waste your points on characters that you cant even protect properly. Altogether, you want to be idealy spending a max of 300pts on characters NOT more than that.
My second point is even at 1000 points you need to equip and protect your characters in some way or another. It doesnt have to be the best sword or the best armor, but they need to be able to dish out and take at least some kind of damage. With your vampire, he can survive but he is not effective in close quarters so if you are intending on keeping him, I would suggest giving him Red Fury, 2 CWs and Armor of Silver Steel (5A +Red Fury, 2+Sv) This will make him your main damage dealing character who can either run around on a horse by himself or tag along with the skeletons.
As for the rest of the list, its very difficult to comment on because your zombies are below legal unit strength and your skeleton unit is too weak to start with. Id personaly take two units of 25 skeletons(w/ FC) with the points Id save on the characters and start working from there. The cart and gheist are fine, but you realy need to boost yoour core and the only way you can do that is if you do something about the characters.

Thanks for all the input! Can't believe I forgot about the zombies having to be 20+. Anyways, took all the input, did a slight revamp. Hopefully I'll get to try it out today, see how it goes.
-Talisman of Preservation
-Armor of Destiny

40 Zombies Characters will go here)

For a friendly themed zombie list its pretty solid. Only real concern is that your master necromancer doesnt die :p. Perhaps drop the king and field 2 necromancers? Would work with the zombie theme.
list looks good
I always take two magic casters and don't put them on the front line;
the ward is good so that you can hammer dice in to a spell and no worries too much about the miscast.
i run Night shroud on a king with dragon helm this as worked fantastic for me as many lists run that silly flame banner and this really turns the tide in cc 3+,2+ward with no bonus to strength vs the king, slam on a cast of hellish vigor and hes decapitating heroes or heavy troop left right and center. thing is i use kings, mostly as a body guard for weak casters like baby mannfred make them go last and cut them up first
Well, we played last night, and I ran a slightly modified version of this list versus the new Empire. I can't begin to explain how well it went. Basically, the only changes I made from the last update were to drop the Lodestone from the Corpse Cart, I dropped the Necro to lvl. 3, and I swapped out the Wight King with a Vamp w/ Heavy Armor, Nightshroud, Great Weapon, Ironcurse Icon, and the Dragonbane Gem. The nicest things were having two casters, and. as usual, the Terrorgheist. Terrorgheist got his points back in the first two turns by first annihilating a Shrine of Sigmar (or whatever that monstrosity was), and then in turn two tearing apart the Character that had been on the back of it. Biggest surprise, though, was what I was able to do with Invocation, with two casters and all zombies. I kept starting the phase with Curse of Years, which my opponent would spam his dispel dice at to keep away, which would give me free reign to use the Invocation with both of my casters. Seriously, I started out with 80 zombies totally, probably lost 30+ (at least) to cc/shooting/combat res, and at the end of the game my final zombie count was 187. O.o I should also note that we may have the best army for the Blood and Glory scenario. Large zombie units with standard bearers = golden.
Also, as a side note to Genorapter- I assume you mean that you run the Night shroud with the Dragonbane Gem?
He clearly said the dragon helm which gives a 2+ ward save against flaming attacks. However he was making the assumption your opponent has flaming attacks.Plus Night shroud and dragon helm together would be illegal.
Edit: Don't expect the gheist to make his points back in higher point games. My gheist has been shot by artillery off the board on turn one so many times x_X

sorry i posted wrong the items, night shroud+ enchant shield and dragon gem (its the same points) to get 3+2+flameward also why i said i used the vigor reroll (if i used great weapon in my list also, i wouldn't need it)
