    2,000 Points of Oldskool Goodness - Competitive? (New to VC)

    Hello everyone!

    A while ago a friend of mine gave me a whole bunch of 90's era Undead miniatures. Have been meaning to get them into a coherent fighting force for a while now, just wanted to get my other armies finished first. Got the army book the other day and struggled to put a viable army list together. This is what he gave me:

    Nagash
    Dieter Helsnict on a Manticore
    Wight King on Zombie Dragon
    Vlad and Isabella von Carstein
    Krell
    Necromancer
    Mounted Necromancer
    Ghost
    Vampire on Nightmare
    Wight King on Skeletal Steed
    89 Skeletons with 3 Command Groups
    10 Black Knights

    Some of these models are now in crapcast... I mean, finecast. There's at least £2-300 hundred worth of stuff here

    Am looking to run a themed list (I run themed lists for my other two armies) concentrating on the ancient dead rather than the recently deceased (also helps with not having to buy a lot of new models!) so no Ghouls,Zombies or Crypt Horrors. From my bits box I salvaged a Bretonnian Knight on foot which I'll use as my Vamp Lord (maybe a Wight King if I get another model), a non GW Banshee & Vampire with sword and shield (like to stick to GW models as I play most of my games at the local store) and most of a Black Coach which I can convert to use as either the Coach or a Corpse Cart.

    Anyway, here's the army that I have written up - took me ages and I'm not convinced it's remotely competitive, lol

    Lords:

    Vampire Lord; Red Fury; Quickblood; Talisman of Preservation; Ogre Blade; Other Trickster's Shard; Heavy Armour; Shield; 409 (will stick him in the central skeleton block)

    Heroes;

    Level 2 Vampire; Flying Horror; Shield of Ptolos; 195 (will be supporting the knights/hexwraiths. Will stick him in a skelly block to begin with)
    Wight King on Barded Skeletal Steed; Enchanted Shield; 110 (leads the Black Knights)
    Necromancer; 65 (don't know where to put him - am thinking of sticking him on a Corpse Cart - good idea?)

    Troops:

    30 Skeleton Warriors; Champion; Standard Bearer; 170
    29 Skeleton Warriors; Champion; Standard Bearer; 165
    29 Skeleton Warriors; Champion; Standard Bearer; 165

    Special

    11 Black Knights; Full Command; Banner of the Barrows; 311 (no lances or barding, are either necessary? Could drop the unit to 9 to free up some points)

    5 Hexwraiths; Hellwraith; 160

    Rare

    Black Coach; XXX (if I do take a Corpse Cart I may drop this for something else. Is a BC a competitive choice?)

    1945

    Badly need help, I think.

    So, what do you think so far?
    Anything I could swap/change/drop entirely?
    Good start, or do I need to go back to the drawing board? Please don't say that I do >_>

    Thanks in advance for your help

    MG

    it sems like a pretty good fluff build. but you migt drop the corpse cart idea, and take the black coach. it seems like you lack some hitting power. you also might think of giving your lord - sword of bloodsheed, potion of strength, gamblers armour, quick blood and red fury. heavy armour and sheild. giving him 8 s. s.5, (reroll to hit,) attacks and strength 8 to deal with tough things. and if you challenge things you don,t need the big ward save. you kill everything in challenge... you might think of give one of you skellie units the screaming banner and the vamp in it the fear inc. bloodline, the enemy have to take fear test with 3d6 and reroll if succed. and with the aura of dark majesty bloodline they get -1 ld. food for thoughts. drop 2 black knights to 9. give them lances and barding for s. 6 in charge and 2+ armour save. you migt think of give the wight king ,sword of strife, +2 attacks making his killing blow to go of more often. hmm. drop the champion in the hexwraiths. his is not worth it. it a cool unit but you almost never get the use of them that you want duo to the marching rules for vamps. hope this helps..

    Wow! A response! Thank you very much

    I have actually changed the army slightly since I posted it:

    Lords

    Vampire Lord; Red Fury; Quickblood; Dragonhelm; Talisman of Preservation; Sword of Might; Other Trickster’s Shard; Barded Nightmare; Heavy Armour; Shield; 418

    Heroes

    Level 2 Vampire; Sword of Battle; Enchanted Shield; Heavy Armour; 144

    Wight King; Shield; 89

    Level 2 Necromancer; Master of the Dead; Dispel Scroll; 145

    Core

    29 Skeleton Warriors; Full Command; 175
    29 Skeleton Warriors; Full Command; 175
    14 Skeleton Warriors; 70

    5 Dire Wolves; 40
    5 Dire Wolves; 40

    Special

    9 Black Knights; Full Command; Lances; Barding; Banner of the Barrows; 314

    Corpse Cart; Balefire; 105

    Spirit Host;

    Spirit Host;

    Rare:

    Black Coach;

    2,000

    Basic plan is to have the knights, coach and wolves all on one flank - the coach doesn't need it but the wolves can take advantage of his vampire general status. All the skeleton blocks run together, two bigger ones at the front and the smaller running up behind - which acts as a bunker for the Necro casting Invoc with MotD - the corpse cart will be supporting these. The wolves and hosts are for harassment purposes, warmachine duty etc, the hosts can also lock small units (with no static CR) in place. Basic plan obviously subject to change dependant on scenario/opponent.

    Using the models I have I'd like to make the army as competitive as possible. Will be stretching to 3,000 points eventually so don't mind purchasing new units/models to help 'flesh' out the force.

    Have absolutely no experience with VC, by the way

    What do you think?
    Anything lacking/missing?
    Anything I should swap/change?
    Do I have enough magic/combat potential etc?
    Anything you would like to add?
