Some of you may remember a 2k wolf themed army list I made ages ago and was going to test? Well I expanded it to 3k for the hell of it, I think its better at 2k though..
Lord, lvl3, general, great weapon, wolf form, wolf lord, spectral attendants, crown of the damned
Lord, level 3, second hand weapon, wolf form, summon wolves, wolf lord, staff of damnation
Thrall, second hand weapon, flayed hauberk, wolf form
Thrall, second hand weapon, wolf form, summon wolves
4*10 wolves (1 unit with scout)
4 bat swarms
5 fell bats
2 black coaches
10 black knights, full command, drakenhof banner
Wow! Do you really have 82 wolves! I've gotten myself up to almost 30, and having used that many in a regular VC list, I think that your list would be a lot of fun to play. That many fast cav units is just tough to deal with, especially when you can raise/resurrect them. And the two chariots and 1 unit of knights would add some real punch to the list.
Did you go with two lords to maxmize magic?
Yeah I went with 2 lords to get that extra bit of magic defence in the form of an extra dispel dice.. Very useful for Sylvanians.
82 wolves is only the start of the battle, there are 2 vamps with summon wolves (2-6 wolves each when near the drakenhof banner) and both lords will have invocation and wolf lord. It is a heavily themed army, with the coaches being pretty much the slowest things.
The fast cavalry are great, but they'd be a hell of a lot better if they could flee from charges.. I see the whole undead unbreakable thing as almost a disadvantage with this army.
Anyway, I tested the army today (unlike the 2k one I made ) against Empire. His army was mostly infantry, some pistoliers (fast cavalry), a couple of units of handgunners, some heavy knights, and 3 warmachines. Thats it I think.. Magic was about even, except with my 4 grave markers I was a little bit ahead offensively.
I was pretty worried, as I mentioned the wolf theme is probably a lot better at 2k and I was hesitant to move up to 3k.. Ranks and magic could really kill me, not to mention shooting. But I managed to pull off a pretty decisive victory, in no small part due to his failing a lot of fear tests. By turn 3 or 4, most of his units were routed or destroyed and he gave up. There was a few pistoliers, and a unit of handgunners who were about to be charged by my lord and 16 wolves.
So yeah, it was a fun list to play. Certainly would suffer a lot against some armies (Ogres being a big one) but its not completely inneffective. I see it either going really well, or really bad, no close games. And it definitely requires lots of manouvring, and maybe even some luck.
I used proxies BTW, I don't have anywhere near that many wolves.
