[1500] Blood Dragon Army - Friendly

Here is a first draft of a VC army I thought might work out as a sort of straight-forward walking dead kinda army, with a strong unit of Grave Guard in the middle:

    Heroes:

    Vampire Thrall (Blood Dragon)
    -Blademaster
    -Heavy Armor & Shield
    -Additional hand weapon
    -Marches with Grave Guard

    Necromancer
    -Level 2
    -Book of Arkhan

    Necromancer
    -Level 2
    -Power Familiar

    ----385

    Rare & Special:

    1 Banshee

1 unit of Grave Guard (23 in unit)
    -Full Command
    -Shields
    -Banner of the Barrows

    3 Spirit Hosts

    ----659

    Core:

2 units of Skeletons (20 per unit)
    -full command
    -light armor

    ----450

    Total: 1494

I'd have the spirit hosts screen the Grave Guard and skeletons, but primarily the GG. I can use the skeleton units to hide my necros in if necessary, and the banshee allows me to do something during my shooting phase. ^_^

It's a strong list, I can't find much against it except that its going to be charged most of the time, and you dont have any fast movers really. Also, its a smallish army, oh and you have your BD with an extra hand weapon as well as shield, I'm not sure how that works, I think you can use the shield, but only get a +1 bonus when not in combat, or you can't use it at all becuase that would be too many combat choices...someone more experienced should answer that.

Otherwise the necros are well tooled up, and the BD will be a powerhouse in combat along with those GG.

Oops, forgot to take away the shield when I put on the additional hand weapon - thanks!

As far as being charged, yeah, that was my main concern after looking over the list. I hope I'll be able to stop most flanking charges via IoN and placing a group of zombies between my flank and the charging units. Thanks again for the input!

I'd drop to two spirit host for a game at 1500 and add ghouls, fell bats, or dire wolves. But it's a good list overall.

Alright, I took away a Spirit Host and added a unit of 6 Dire Wolves with a Doom Wolf:

    Heroes:

    Vampire Thrall (Blood Dragon)
    -Blademaster
    -Heavy Armor
    -Additional hand weapon
    -Marches with Grave Guard

    Necromancer
    -Level 2
    -Book of Arkhan

    Necromancer
    -Level 2
    -Power Familiar

    ----383

    Rare & Special:

    1 Banshee

1 unit of Grave Guard (23 in unit)
    -Full Command
    -Shields
    -Banner of the Barrows

    2 Spirit Hosts

    ----594

    Core:

2 units of Skeletons (20 per unit)
    -full command
    -light armor

1 unit of Dire Wolves (6 in unit)
    -Doom Wolf

    ----520

    Total: 1497

    How is it looking now?

I'd just add another dire wolf instead of the doom wolf, it gives you an extra wound as well as the attack, so you can last a little bit longer in combat maybe.

I agree with Jabu. Another dire wolf will do you more good. All a doom wolf does is give you another attack. The same points can buy another model which gives you another attack, more unit size (important for fear), and more lasting power.

    Looks good, though.
