On the thralls: nay, Nay, NAY! They cost as much as a Level 2 Necromancer with the Book of Arkhan or a Dispel Scroll, and they would serve your list far, far better.

Necrach Thralls are an example of an important Warhammer lesson:
    Specialised is better.
Take a unit of Wolfriders. You can kit them out to fight head-on, with Light Armour and Shields and Spears. You can kit them out to perform cheap but strong flank-support with just Spears. Or you can kit them out for missle support with Shortbows.
What you should NEVER do is equip them with everything. See, now you have an expensive unit that can perform all of those roles. But when its filling one role, its can't fill another. So the points you paid for that role are going to waste.
125 Points? I'd pay that for a good fighter character. I'd pay that for a good magic character. A specialised character. I would not pay it for an average fighter and an average wizard. Because when he's being an average fighter he's not being an average wizard, and those 45 points are more-or-less going to waste. And vice-versa.

If you are ever going to take a Necrach Thrall over a Wight Lord, just keep him cheap with a Dark Acolyte bloodline power.

Oh, and I wouldn't bother with the Awakening, either. Go for a common magic Sword/Blade.

Reason why I take Necrarch Thralls over Necromancers:

Neither a Necrarch or a Necro can wear armor. Either way, whatever wounds they get dealt, they are taking.

    HOWEVER:

A Thrall, though with less diversity being only a level 1, instead of 2, is a better pure caster. Why? +1 to rolls to cast. 1 less power die, yes. Same allotment of dispel dice.

Also, unlike the Necro, the Thrall has a chance to dish out some damage, with 3 attacks at weapon skill 4, strength 5 I believe.

In my opinion, the Thrall isn't trying to balance out combat and magic, in my eyes, I'm maximizing both for my hero choice. Plus, the Thrall is cheaper than the Necromancer (150 with Level 2 + 50 points of magic items), which allows me to save some points for other things, like bigger core regiments, or more points to spend on items for my Vampire Count, etc...

I understand the arguement against Necrarch Thralls, but I respectfully disagree.
