First post and I have never played any kind of war gaming in the past.
I have had the Army book for a few weeks but have only played a few 500 - 1500 pt skirmishes so far.
Most casual games at my store are 2000 points so here we are. I was thinking about entering something like this into the votewar, but decided with no real play experience it would be best to start here.
Let me know if I am missing anything obvious. Thanks in advance.
"The Three Horsemen"
Blood Dragon Vampire Count
- Nightmare w/ Barding
- Wailing Helm
- Talisman of Protection
- Red Fury
- Nightmare w/Barding
- Rod of Flaming Death
- Nightmare w /Barding
- Hell Banner
15 Black Nights
- Barded Nightmares
- Hell Knight
- Standard Bearer
- Screaming Banner
- Book of Arkhan
- Dispell scroll
- Lt Armour
- Standard Bearer
7 Dire Wolves
7 Dire Wolves
5 Dire Wolves
4 Fell Bats
The plan is to use the 4 Terror causing units to get armies to break into the fast, manueverable units.
I realize that this may be too "themey" or fluffy. Another reason I did not throw it into the votewars.
I just assumed that if fear was good, then terror should be better as it would trump other fear producers.
I look forward to reading any comments and I will continue to find/read all the tactical stuff I can find. Thanks again.
Hmmm.... I'd have to look up if you have multiple terror causing characters in a unit that causes terror whether or not the enemy has to take a test for each one.
That's assuming you're putting the characters in with the Black Knights. Having the characters out on their own is a very bad idea as they'll be vulnerable to shooting and, as undead, very vulnerable to crumbling.
If you do put all the characters in the knights then I would strongly suggest switching the knights banner for the Banner of Doom as:
a) the knights will be prime target for any shooting and magic and the Banner of Doom protects against that
b) screaming banner only works for fear tests and not terror, though naturally terror causing units also cause fear
Also, relying on terror isn't a good plan. It either works or it doesn't there's not much middle ground and against some armies, Wood Elf forest spirit armies for eg., it wont work at all due to them being immune to psychology.
I would say your army has too few models. One unit of infantry is just not enough. I would go for three infantry units in a 2k game.
The BK unit is way too big imo. I would split it into 2 units of 5 and spend the leftover points on zombies. If your big 15-model BK unit dies, there is no "plan B".
I would drop the wraith for a second necro. You need him for the magic, especially since the BD count gets -1 on his.
Using the Black Coach is a bit of a gamble, but I am sure you know that
Cut the wolves down to 2 units of 5 or 6. Spend remaining points on cheap zombies.
So cut down a bit on the cavalry and get more infantry and magic. I must say I agree with 2000AD about the terror theme. On the other hand, an army built around a theme is fun, so if its fluff you are after, I say go for it!
Rork edit: Woah! Check your spelling - you only give "special chocies" to your girlfriend.
Since it's a casual game I'd say the best bet is to check up on the terror rules and then go and play it.
It's a bit of an 'all your eggs in one basket' army but if the [i]terror[/] rules do allow for each terror causing model in the unit to cause a test it could be a heck of a lot of fun, especially against low leadership armies.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Yeah, this is a more fluff driven list. I am working on a Strigoi list for somewhat competitive play.
I have heard about a Flying Circus list and I might try something similar.
