Welcome to Librarium Online!
I havn't really seen any opinions on Zombie Dragons. Good? Bad? How would one use them to the most advantageous?
"I like to keep this handy, for close encounters."
on their own there not too good as the cost is a bit much also its sadly the same with the mounted version and then it will take up a valuble hero slot that a necromancer could take.
but if you put a blood dragon lord on one with the cursed book it could be v. hard to hit.
i think the zombie dragon is awesome just for psychologoical factors, and i'm not saying terror, but just in pure psychology its damn scary to see that thing with 6 wounds while a necromancer could heal it up in a turn if they're not careful.
Argh, Vampire people! Capital letters, capital letters!
Okay, now that I got that out of my system. You know, oddly enough, I've never used a zombie dragon, not even in proxy. And VC is my first army from, can you guess, '04.
So I can't tell you what I've experienced; I can only repeat what others have said:
1. Poor stats as far as dragons go. Low weapon skill and only four attacks.
2. Cloud of flies is cool, especially against WS 3 or less troops. Cool also as it effects units targeting the rider.
3. Can be healed, and who can top that?
4. Not much of a save as far as dragons go.
Now one thing to do is give the rider the cursed book and then the enemy is at -2 to hit, which almost isn't fair.
if this was on a blood dragon lord all ws 4 or lower models would hit it on 7s!Now one thing to do is give the rider the cursed book and then the enemy is at -2 to hit, which almost isn't fair.
Not a big fan as:
- For a dragon it's not that good at fighting.
- You can either have a necromancer or a Vampire Lord riding it, meaning either someone who can't fight or your general and frankly I don't like my general being on a big target saying "aim cannonballs here!".
- It takes up a hero slot and I'd prefer a necromancer or a thrall to the dragon.
Yeah it would be very hard to justify taking one.. I have tried it before and it really didn't do anything. Granted the vampire and the dragon survived the battle, they were my only unit left on the table.
As mentioned, its weaker than other dragons, it takes a hero slot (and so does a vamp lord, so at 2k you are only left with 1 other hero slot) and it leaves yor general flying around away from where he should be.
And if I'm not mistaken, our weak dragon costs the same amount of points as a steam tank. I sure know which one I'd prefer in any battle.
Incorrect unfortunatly, the worst you can hit on is 5's i believe, unless there are special rules or failed fear checks, where it is 6's.if this was on a blood dragon lord all ws 4 or lower models would hit it on 7s!
All in all, 6's are the worst you can hit on.

Vampire Counts - 3500 Points
Orcs And Goblins - 2000 Points
I played a campaign game once where I had the opportiunity to field a Zombie Dragon against an army that was only 750pts or so vs my 1000pts (the reason I was able to field the Zombie Dragon was because of the way the campaign armies had developed). Anyway even with such an advantage the zombie dragon spectacularly underperformed. Lest you misunderstand I won but I don't think I will take a zombie dragon again.
