Cant Kill Empire Steam Tank

I have a friend who plays with the Steam Tank in his empire army and i just cannot seam to kill that thing, ive only killed it once and that was when it hurt itself! Any ideas on how to kill it?!? (st 4 has such a hard time even damaging it and then he gets a 1+ save... that he generally demolishes whatever unit is fighting it before they do more than a couple wounds and zombie dragons or a big point suck in 2000 pts...especially with great cannons around)

Vampires, including thralls, with a great weapon. How about the Black Axe of Krell? That could do a number on it.

Blackknights with a thrall or 2 (with lance) in it. If I've got the new steam tank rules right then putting 3 or more wounds on it will seriously curtail it unless the player wants to take a gamble. That's assuming you play VC or BD.

A banshee within 12" of your battle standard bearer will do the job pretty well. Also units of spirit host mean it is never going to be in the fight. alternatly just zombie it, I doubt it could kill enough of them to destroy the unit and you can always have them back. Try raising zombies around the back of it and then Vanhal's them into combat. A VC thrall with great weapon (st7) and wolf form, or a BD one with a lance and strength of steel (st would do the job as well.

But Steam Tanks can back out of combat. They don't get bogged down. And IIRC the banshee's scream doesn't work against War Machines...is the Steam Tank classed as a war machine?

Why dont you just take a dogs of war cannon? Or like every one lese suggested, a thrall with a great weapon.

i like the thrall idea, i just dont like taking away a necromancer from my list (its based on raising a LOT of models)..the problem is its gonna take a while for a thrall to rack up a fair number of wounds on that thing and im not sure that the thrall and his unit will survive for that long... I dont really like the cannon cuz its not fluffy...though i suppose if i just replaced the crew with skeletons it could fit visually...though id have to remember it isn't really undead....

I was thinking about buying a cannon and propping it up on 2 pairs of skeleton legs, for a sort of necrarch twist?

Would look pretty cool.

why not a honest thrall with great weapon and wolf form?
this way you approach the enemy taking casualties on dire wolves and then charge out, while the wolves move and reform to screen the hero from other attackers, while he does the grinding, and maybe cut the escape way for the tank.
