I'm reaaaaaaaaallly thinking of starting an undead army, as my first in WHFB, and, naturally, I want UNDEAD!!
But I don't just want any undead, no no... I want a "holy shit I woke up this morning and everyone is zombies" army. Basically, zombies, zombies, corpse carts, zombies, zombies and something that can make more zombies!
After hearing about the new Army Book -- particularly VC's new "spell 6" which apparently lets you summon 5d6+4 zombies -- I've decided I want a primarily all-zombies army. Perhaps some Ghouls thrown in, maybe even some zombie wolves (dire wolves), but basically nothing but as many zombies as I can squeeze in.
So my question is, is this viable? Will the tactical inflexibility of this kind of army be supplanted by the sheer wall of bodies permeating everything (and the constant summoning of new zombie units)? Or am I just crazy?

In my experience sometimes.
What your talking about is called a rock paper sicors army and it rocks vs certain opponents and sucks vs others.
However there is no reason from what I can see to just field a reasonably balanced army and just convert anything that doesn’t look zombie engoh for you the zombie box set is a really good pise of kit and it was frankly the art work on the front of that kit that inspired me to play vampire counts
For instance I used undead wraiths combined with zombie parts to make one of my necromancer and as for my dire wolfs I attached extra limbs that are holding spears to the back of a doom wolf
as a vampire count player understand your love for our brain eating friends and i wish you good luck
I would agree that while just playing a ton of zombies may not be the way to go, you could convert your way through the army to zombify each unit to your liking.
I've played against the 'nothing but zombie hoard' before twice. Once against a bad player, and then again - the same list - against a very good player.
The bad player, I steamrolled.
The good player had me right where he wanted me - tied up everywhere with a lot of zombies, and I still won. There's just no hammer for this huge anvil. As powerful as vampire characters are, they just can't do enough damage on their own to make up for missing things like Black Knights or a Black Coach in the flank.
Though there may be a new viabilty to this sort of list if (as per rumour) the Corpse Carts in the upcoming book give undead nearby ASF. As long as this ability overrides the Braindead rule (if it still exists in the new book) then the shambling undead horde may very well work. But zombie bats (bat swarms) should make it into your list. Maybe even get ambitious and model them as zombified flock of ravens or murder of crows.
Though as has been stated this is much more a fun and relaxed list then truly scary (except for all the models you'll have to paint) list. But really as long as you have fun with the list who cares if you win or lose.
Do not question the dice gods for their wrath is swift and terrible.
Some armies will just steamroller you. Khorne will love you for offering units that they can hit on 3's and kill on 2's.
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
Well could always add in a zombie dragon to have your hammer really. Though since I do not own a VC book at the moment not sure if you can (though I think I've heard some rumors that you might be able to get em...course could be wrong ).
Still sounds like an interesting idea as who can resist zombies anyways.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

i think the idea is awesome, from a fluff view anyway, i love zombies just as much as you my friend, i have 1000000000s of them, my black knights are even Zombified bretonian knights!
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.

I think, as has been said, you won't be able to pull off this kind of army too successfully unless you have something to hit back with. I mean, getting every single one of the enemies units tied up in combat and just slowly grinding them down might work, but it seems a slightly unreliable tactic.
It could also get a little boring. And frustrating. Once you're all tied up you can't do anything but fight, die, and raise.
Personally, I'm still a little unsure as to what the new rulebook is going to mean. I know there are plenty of 'confirmed' rumours out there, but I'm still waiting and seeing.
Who knows? The Zombie Hoarde might be the next power army!
Okay... I think it's time for me to stop typing now.
I use a all zombie horde and trust me you do not win!!!! if you want to do it for the look of it like me then fine! go for it! but if you want to win games then i suggest only one or two zombie units and the rest skeletons/graveguard/knights etc..... also take as many magic users as you can!!!
