I had an idea for an army. I wanted to make one that consited entirely of Necro's and core troops, maybe a banshee to hide behind the lines of core troops and fire at the enemy. I was actually wondering whether this would be a valuable tactic? I am not sure, cause I have almost never been able to hit back (specially not with zombies!) once my enemy killed a few models. However, I have been in some situations where core troops effectively killed a few enemies, and even once a zombie that killed a char on its own! (2X 1 on a +2 save and 2 wounds char)...So, will this tactic actually be valuable? aside from it being fun to play ofc!
Basically, goes like this:
Z S Z S Z S (dont know how much core units u can field )
B N MN N N
MN Master Necro
havent made a list yet so not sure about the exact number of core units u are able to field and how many chars....but anyway, viable tactic or just fun?
It can be done, and has been for some time. The problem is it is a very one-dimensionsl list, and as such will own some armies and crumble to others. It relys on breaking enemies with static combat res, and outnumber with fearcausing units, but armies with immunity to fear in some way are abundant. Either unbreakable, immune to psychology or fear-causers themselves. And these can often outfight you.
Another issue is the reliance on magic superiority. A fatal miscast could be the game for you, plus this 'onesidedness' tends to get boring, IMO.
This is my feeling on the necro-horde, short answer is, yes it can be done, and it can work. But if you do it, do it for fun a few times, with a sporting opponent. ;Y
then a next question arises...Is there any list (if u can fill it in ureself) for 2K that can work with no vamps and a master necro?
I would wait for the new armybook if I were you, seeing as the rumours say there will be more focus on vampires. And no master necro, zombies will change, new units to take into account. Could be that the zombie/necro horde isn't possible with the new book. Among friends you could still use it of course, but it's something to consider.
If I were to make a list it would just be lots of zombies, 3 necro's and a master. And then load them up with magic gizmos to really stamp out your magic superiority. Finally you could add a few flankers, I once saw a list with only zombies, necro's and dire wolves.
Make sure you keep your casters in a bunker behind your main line, then summon up units to the flank and rear of the enemy and overwhelm them with dead flesh.
