I have finally decided to make VC my second army and I have a question. Everything I have is the army book, 10 skeletons, 10 ghouls and Konrad.
So I were sitting examining the army book and thinking on some fluff for my army. Then I put together some characters but when i calculated how many points it was...
825 POINTS FOR 3 VAMPIRES????
Is this normal for a 2000 point match?
It seems so much though I go magic heavy so I were kind of expecting it. I come from a HE background and I'm used to be careful on how much points I invest in characters.

Well, considering that Vampires cost nearly as much as a lord choice, and Vampire Lords are more than a fair few fully kitted out lords, that doesn't surprise me.
From what I've seen, with VC you always want the max number of heroes/lords. That means you're looking at 500 points before you start investing into upgrades if you go all vampire, of which you can get a total of another 500 points worth. It seems that most hero levels will generally have around around 50-75 points of upgrades each, with the lord generally having over 100, so over 800 points sounds about right. If you go heavy magic, then odds are your Vampires will be around 200 points each and the lord around 350 or so for about 1000 points. Overall, though, if you're going magic heavy you can probably survive with a couple less units due to the vastly increased number of IoN.

That's about right. I've just been trying to rework my army list for the new rulebook, and even trying to be moderate with what I give my Vampires I've still ended up with almost exactly 800 points (Vampire Lord, two Hero Vampires and one Wight).
Besides, it's not all that bad. If you want to fully upgrade a vampire lord, maxing out their wargear and power allowances and giving them a zombie dragon to boot, you're looking at upwards of 700 points! So 800 or so for 3 vampires is not all that bad...
They be expensive, those vampires.
OK more questions:
Let's say I have two casters. One of them has lord of the dead and the other doesn't. The caster with lord of the dead increase a unit of skeletons from 20 (starting number) to 26. Then the unit suffers 5 causalities from shooting.
Can my second caster increase the number of skeletons to 26 with IoN next magic phase?
Is it viable for vampires to not have armour as long as they stick to a unit?
5000p. High Elves
Gee, that was a lot of help...
However, If you're planning on using him to help out in close combat, there's always the probability he'll get challenged and either become useless or killed by a more powerful character. As with most things, it depends on the situation.
But yes, it could be viable.
Hope that helps.
