Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well I was watching something earlier today and the Knights Templars came up, this got me thinking. I started to think that they would look great as Undead and to make an VC KT army based on BDs.
I just want thoughts and opinions, but this won't happen until I get my HEs all painted first (so could be a while). Also I was thinking of doing this with an Empire army and kinda linking them, so the Living KT (Empire) are trying to regain their honour by destroying the tain on their honour led by the Undead KT (VC).
So it would be lots of mounted troops (Black Knights) and some elite foot knights (Grave Guard) with lots of men at arms (skellies), and maybe a few units of zombies for the necros to raise up from the dead littering the battlefield.
The army will also have wight lords and Vamps to act as their high ranking champs and leaders/knights. The army will mainly try to have a look of an elite fighting force that has been cursed and well now just wants to kill ^_^ So the men at arms will all have armour and shields, the knights full armour and same with the grave guard. The magic items would only be used if I think they are knightly enough ie the grail shield item (shield of mousillon) but say it works as the same but against the empire knights (if allowed) and items with swords and stuff I'd think a knight would take.
The colour scheme would need to be the KT which is White cloth, with a red cross (but I may change the crosses colour to show higher ranked knights etc) but to show that they are long dead I was thinking of trying to make the cloth muddied and maybe the cross emblem scratched and looked as if it's been removed or attempted to be.
The character would be based on the templars history, this means they will be more religious. And so for the necromancers I was think of having a go at making them out of Empire Warrior priests, this will show the currupt quality of the church. The lords I was thinking maybe Bretonnian knights or a combo of brets/empire and Black Knights, this would give them the appearence of them being knightly but still cursed. Also the red cross will appear quite often, maybe either looking as if it's been attempted to be removed or clear and easily seen as a mockery of the KT.
Well these are just a few thoughts of mine, I'd like you feedback. And like I said I'd have to wait until my HEs are painted, and even then I don't know how much this would work. I've never really converted anything except a shield swap or so, and this would be quite fun to do.
PS for more info on the Knights Templars go here
Sounds like a cool idea, Ulrik. Do add alot of cloth though. Those templars had that, didnt they? So.. those undead horses, they are just bone. No cloth at all.
Taking bretonnian horses would just have a lack of dead horses, so make some horsecloths out of greenstuff. I dunno if thats hard, i've never tried it
And those grail knights are just great.. cloth on their legs and even cool.. uhm.. its late and i cant think of the word. Those flapping things on their backs! Just stick to helmeted ones and you dont need to cut and put skulls.
For the grave guard.. they did have pretty cool foot knight heroes in the 5th ED for Bretonnia (i have all 3) but i dunno if you can get hold of them anymore. Also, they had foot knight troops in 4th ed i believe.. not sure.
Men-at-arms box and a skeleton box, maybe a zombie box too, and start cutting and glueing.
Will make cool skeletons.
May be hard work and cost alot, but you will have a greatlooking force!
Thanks but like I said after my High Elves are done, and then only maybe.
But while I'm still thinking about it there have been a few ideas helped along by a few peeps, these are the fluff and a few more ideas.
So the army would be mainly like a empire knightly order just deadifiyed, so to keep that idea the only units I'd include would be:
Some fluff vis LordChilliPeppa
Skellies - armoured
Zombies - but only for the raise spells (the dead rasied from the battlefield)
Dire wolves - made to look like warhounds
Bat swarms - to show the allegence of the vamp
Ghouls - disgraced templars who are bound to the vamp, but will still flee
Black Knights - as it is a knightly order
Grave Guard - Elite bodyguard
Spirit Host - the ghosts of the dead templars bound to the will of the vampireAnd another idea:Order of Knights that is branch from the Templars of Sigmar returns from a crusade in Khemri, laden with gold. Elector count wants to possess gold for the treasury - Templars claim it is the rightful property of the Church of Sigmar. Elector count organises to have lead Templar framed, and arrests him. Knowing their leader to be innocent, a group of loyal knights (the army you'll collect) break him out of the dungeon and flee, carrying the best share of the gold with them, planning to entrust it to a church in the next county. They are hounded by the count's men, outlawed and declared heretics, and finally brought to battle at a river/cliff/impassable stretch of ground, where, after a furious fight, the count's soldiery kill them. The gold is seized, the leaders are burnt and the soldiers summarily executed. All are buried where they fell.
Years later, an ambitious necromancer comes to the spot. 'Aha!' thinks he, 'a fallen army! Perfectissimo!'. He raises them, but when he raises the fallen grand master of the order the grand master, whose will is too strong to be obliterated by the spell, cuts him down for what he has done. He then leads his warriors to kill the now-aged elector count and reclaim what was taken...
I really think there should be the sequence where he and his loyal knights are trapped and slain, as that's quite a powerful indicator of the injustice done to him, great enough to animate his corpse with a will for vengeance. It could be that the EC held a banquet for the returning knights, and, due to being held up in snowdrifts, the Grand Master and his retinue arrived after all the other knights had been stabbed in the back and were forced to flee.
I like the cursing plotline.
If you want to make either story more plausible, change 'Elector Count' for 'Baron' and have it take place in Sylvania, under one of the corrupt leaders who have taken over after Hel Fenn. The dark magic saturating the land explains the fact that he could rise from a curse, and the abundance of necromancers would explain his rising better the other way.
Also the idea coming together is that the order is led by a wight lord (a blackened skeleton in a blackened suit of armour, but "counts as" a Vampire count/lord. The necros would be warrior priests, to show that all of the order had fallen from grace. And one great idea was to have the spells renamed for them, so show their thirst for vengance etc.
Well that's that for now, but any thoughts and help will be welcome.
