Hi,

I just wanted some clarification with the Black Periapt. As I understand it, it allows you to take one unused power/dispel dice from either players dice pools, at the end of a magic phase.

Therefore, if the other player is before you, you can take an unused power dice and use it in your go; or, if after you, then in the next turn's magic phase?

I'm trying to work out how useful it would be, it seems to be more useful in making your opponent use all his power dice - and so possibly getting out a miscast out of him?

Thx,

Alex

hhmmm,
well this is confusing...

army builder says 'Allows bearer to save one unused power/dispel from either player's magic pool at the end of any magic phase for the next magic phase'.

I appreciate they're not the be-all and end-all of rules, but they're normally quite good.

The book says 'The Periapt allows the bearer to save one unused power dice or dispel dice at the end of any magic phase and store it, to add it to his side's dice pool in the next magic phase.'

Now there's no mention of anyone else there, but the phrase 'to his side's' seems curious. This seems to insinuate that you can take the dice from either side, and then transfer it to yours.

still, you're probably right, would be very powerful for 15 points

well, well...

this is the reply I got from the GW rules people

The wording on page 51 of the vampire conuts army book implies that the
power or dispel dice may be taken from any players dice pool at the end of
the phase and saved to be used in the next one.

not bad for 15 points

Don't any of yous actually READ the White Dwarf. It says in (the one with abadon on the front cover with his claw around a planet) that the Black periapt can be used in either your own and/or your opponents magic phase. However I really do not see how good this is as your opponent can just waste his unused dice on trying to cast spells, that he/ she knows will not get off just so that you can't take the dice.

Well, he might use it on spells that he knows he can't get, but he might also use them to increase his chances on other spells - so increasing a miscast chance, though obviously increasing the IF chance as well, obviously.

However, picking up an extra dispel dice isn't too bad either.

No, what I mean. he has casted all the spells he wants off but has one dice left and then tries to cast a spell, even if it is a 7+ spell, as there is no rule saying you can't.

Therefore you are unable to collect the "unused" dice as they were used in an unneccersary attampt at a spell. Not adding extra dice to a spell to increase it's chances.

But he might have already cast all his magic, with that mage, especially if he's only got one mage, and it's relatively low level. Either way, for 15 points that's a pretty burly item.
