Thread: The Steam Tank

  1. #1

i was wondering about the tank as u need high strengh stuff like cannons or kroxigors to really hurt it, but we vampire counts don't have much of this (only heros really) does the banshee work? that would be brilliant against the tank, and spirt hosts, since the tank has no magic attacks it cant hurt them? it just seems we have little to combat the empires iron mammoth.

That's because your dead, the only thing that should go up against it is a vamp lord with a GW. With S7 he can seriously damage it, or with a lance. It's a hard thing to cause damage too, being as you have to finout out what did you hit etc (hard or soft) and then - damage pts.

The best thing to do it avoid it, and it doesn't stay in combat. If it wants it can just run through a unit (I think), so the speed bump tactic or the use of etheral creatures isn't the best way to do it.

I've used a Zombie Dragon to kill one before now, however to get that tactic to work you need Fel Bats and Bat Swarms in large numbers in order to distract the Empire War Machines.

Von Carstein Vampire Lord and Zombie Dragon are a lethal combination and if your opponent is taking a Steam Tank they really don't have a leg to stand on when calling your combo cheesy.

How about summon a unit of zombies and tie it up, for the whole game!

It only gets about D3 attacks a turn, it really depends on how much steam is accumilated, however if the other guy wants to get lots of steam and stuffs his rolls and the tank blows up well then you can say "the steam tank isn't that good as even zombies can kill it"

Anyway how useful is a steamtank when you're just empire and the rest of the army runs away most of the time.

Steam Tanks just run over zombies, and I am pretty sure they cannot be tied up in combat. Your best bet is just to fling your Vampire Lord armed with a great weapon into its path and turn it into scrap metal.

As for your analysis of the Empire army as a whole, it is rather poor to say the least. Ld 7 is average so more likely than not, they will not flee.

I got draw with a pure goblin army against a VC army, so i say you shouldnt diss the low LD armies. They can work wonders with their chukkas, fanatics, wolfriders etc.

Vampire with a greatweapon would be the best way to kill a pumpwagon, there's nothing else really

I've taken out steam tanks on several occasions now. You need a unit with a Vampire in the front (so the high strength Vamp can actually kill the damn thing), and a raised unit of zombies to hit it in the back. This will stop the thing reversing out of combat, and it can't turn at all because it is stuck in combat. The Vampire should be able to tear it to pieces in three rounds or so.

r u sure it cant turn in combat? in the Wd it was turning all over dem knights and squashing them to bits. plus i wouldn't want my vampire general right in front of a steam tank! its gonna flatten him/her!

The way the Empire players I have played (and they're pretty experienced tourney goers, so I'd hope they know what they are doing!) is that the only movement a Steam Tank can make in combat is to reverse out of it. Only after reversing can it turn. I'm not an Empire player though, so I'm just going on what I've been told.

Your Vampire general is the best person to damage the steam tank. As long as he's in a unit of zombies or skeletons, there's absolutley no way that the tank will touch him as all the hits will go on the unit and not the uber-destructive vampire.

    Cheers,

I havent used a steam tank since the "old rules" but I dont see why you still wouldnt be able to run over people like in the past.
