Hi all im thinking about starting a fantasy army and i love vampires and i was thinking about starting up Vampire Counts. im thinking about just buying the spear head from my local gw because they have a few in stock. is there anything i need to know before i start collecting and playing Warhammer Fantasy. I also need to buy the rule book for Warhammer Fantasy.
Welcome to the Fantasy, and VC VC is deffinitly a powerhouse in the fantasy world. With regenerating core troops and great characters it can suck to be on the recieving end of a Vampires wrath.
"Only by greeting death can one truly accept the responsibilities of being a warrior" Unknown
Very much so. I turned my high elves into a VC army after i got my rear handed to me by them. I have never looked back.
If your looking to save money then the spear head isnt the way to go.
A spear head is just to get the modles out early and your getting exactly what you pay for, in which case the vampire spearhead gives you very few troops for an army which relise strongly on raising relativly unskilled troops to outnumber your enemy.
Your best bet is to buy the book and characters/heroes for your army seperatly, and then buy the vampire count battalion box. With this you save money and you obtain a good number of models to form the core of your army, then when you decide to add your own touch and prefferances through elite troops you always have the solid core to fall back on.
The spear head gives you; the book, 2 lords, 1 varghulf, 10 skeletons, 10 ghouls, 10 grave guard, 10 dire wolves, and a corpse cart.
None of the units in this case are to a large enough size to realy take by themselves in a game and you will find yourself buying an extra box of troops to bulk up each unit before even thinking about the prospects of raising.
The best way to go as i have mentioned is buying possibly 2 battalion boxes instead and the characters and book speperatly. with this you are getting (both boxes together); 40 Skeletons, 20 ghouls, 40 Zombies, and 2 corpse carts.
Now chances are you may choose not to use every model you get, but i find i can raise over 60 Zombies per game, and increase my skeleton unit to 30+ models so all those extra models come into play.
Basicly this way your not getting anything in your army that your not going to want to use at some point, and have enough to field units straight away. that and the fact that your actualy saving money on units this way. Your saving yourslef £38 or $75 if you were to buy them via spearhead and individualy.
As for the rule book, if you dont fancy paying out full wack for a one from the store try looking on ebay for the "battle for skull pass" rule books from the starter sets. they have the same rule content page for page and will come out cheaper.
hope this has helped a little,
