so I have a newly started vampire counts army and my best friend has a newly started wood elves army, I've read many places that wood elves are quite good against vampire counts, obviously this is not good.. so.. what do I do?
so far I have:
10 dire wolves
one base of ghosts
one black coach
and a vampire mounted on a abyssal terror
she has: (I apologise I don't know the exact numbers of all her units..)
1 spell weaver (I think, it's the guy who's levitating himself in a dramatic fashion..)
a unit of driads
five glade riders
three of the dancers and two command
I think that's right, sorry I can't be more specific... I just wondered what I should do now? like, what should I get next? should I field my black coach or is it a waste? also, how should I equip my leader?
sorry if there's a post somewhere already, I looked through and couldn't find anything since the updates and the wood elves section obviously helps wood elf players..
The reason WE are dangerous is that they have a large number of fear causers themselves (Dryads are core) and have the ability to easily outmanouvre an undead army.
To counter WE, you need lots of good CR blocks (most wood elf units do not negate ranks) and have at least 2 or three large unis of skeletons to be your battle-line. Then roll along the field, and march block his units, with smaller/hard hitting units ready to punch through gaps..
thanks for the advice, when you say skeletons I guess you mean skeleton warriors, or should I get some grave guard also?
the only battle I've played with these guys was against a dark elf army and my ghouls got massacred by some corsairs, so should I just use a higher number to try and bog them down? and what do you think of ghoulkin? is this worth having at this point? and yeah it is a spirit host base that I have, should I take these or wait until I have more points? I know they're good against most armies but with the WE having many magical attacks I dunno whether I should spend the points on another unit..?
also do you have any advice as to what hero I should get? do you think any of the von carsteins are worth it btw? I should probably start building a theme now..
so many questions! sorry...
thanks again keep it coming guys!
Manfred is awesome, as is Vlad. Konrad is pointless, as he is frenzied and so will not allow you as much control.
As for skeletons, yes I meant warriors. Zombies are too squishy, and Ghouls are more a support unit than Skellies. Ghoulkin can be useful, but only if your army is themed around it. My wife has DreadKnight as her army is themed around Black Knights and Blood Knights (using old Bretonnian Grail Knights to represent the "Black Grail" of Dark Omens fame)
What about this guy?:
Grave guard King (75)
+Bone horse (15)
+Fire spear (10)
+Death Flaming walking stick (40)
TOTAL: 140 points
Sorry about the names of the items, xD, need to get an English codex...
I think the background of the ploke fits with the Undead army and can even be useful against Wood Elves and Tomb Kings...
PS: He is supposed to join a Black Knights unit, that's why he's not a vampire (so they can still trespass walls) and didn't buy any armor for the horse...
Don't post individual point costs of items or models.
well it will cost points to make the wight king a BSB but the Banner of Hellfire and Balefire Spike is redundant. If you go with Banner of Hellfire the whole unit including the Wight King gets flaming attacks but there is a better banner that gives all Grave Guard, and Wights +1 to Hit in CC.
Wight King (BS
-Banner of the Borrows
I don't have my army book handy so I can't give you the Total cost of the Hero (total costs are allowed)
I just realized you were probably talking about the Rod of Flaming Death not the Banner of Hellfire
I wrote the costs to make it easier to understand the items I meant...
Thanks anyway for the corrections
PD: It's not a banner what he is carrying, its the rod you mention I guess.
The idea is that the guy is throwing scary flaming pumpkins!
Just for fun!
sugar beet lanterns are more scary - especially when they spontaneous combust
