What would you take in games under 2250? I personally take wraiths, and are generally worth their points?

Depending on the game, the points limit, the rest of my army list and what my opponent is playing. Against my mates empire (knightly crusades of righteous gunpowder) probably the wraiths. Almost untouchable and able to deal with units of knights effectively, as well as almost everything else.

I choose blood knights because besides the fact that they are the reason I collect VCs is the fact that they hit much harder, are better armored, are mounted, allow nearby units to march, can march on their own, and don't crumble.
If you're trying to decide between Wraiths and Blood Knights/Varghulf, the best thing to do would be to take a look at how much magic defense you have.
Wraiths are vulnerable to magic. If you don't have enough DD/Scrolls etc to protect them from magical threats, you probably shouldn't take them. If you can protect them, they're a great choice. Part of this will also depend upon what your usual opponents are fielding, as well.

The other thing to check is how much will the enemy have access to magic vs. conventional shooting. An army tooled up for shooting like Empire may not have a large number of magic items which can damage the wraiths.
Alternatively, most High Elf unit champions can take magic weapons if required, or else have access to nice trinkets like the amulet of light...
Or if you take lots of wraiths, take alot of corpse carts with balefire... That will ensure you can dispel your opponent easily

You just have to screen em' with Dire Wolves or fell bats. Anything like that works.
unless theres bolt throwers on a hill which can shoot over the wolves. Canons as well will shoot right through wolves and blood knights. Wraiths all the way. Bolt Thrower, what bolt thrower? Canons mean nothing to them.

One problem with blood knights is that they are so powerful that your enemy will probably throw everything at it. If they succeed then your army is going to be weakened. Not to mention that they require a lot of points to field.
Blood Knights shouldn't be taken in anything less than like a 3k point game, maybe 2.5 points. When I see a new vampire player trying to play with a 2k blood knight list just makes me chuckle. I spent 1/5th my points on 5 blood knights im strategic right?... No, wait till you get some more points to your army, then start playing around with blood knights.
