I just wanted some thoughts on something I cooked up today, which is basicly going very bat heavy. I think the army would have great character, in teh Vampire summoning his hordes of bats for battle.
So I was thinking 3-4 units of 3 bat swarms, and then 2 units of 5 Fellbats. Grab a casty vamp with Summon creatures of the night, and we seem set....
But then is this even viable? Bats swarms are weak, fell bats not too much better. the list will rely on bats just tying up the enemy, preping them for a flank...any thoughts?
if nothing else it would look cool?
I like this idea, it would have a hard time against some armies but thats a given for anything really.
Would you run vampires with the flying ability and give them some sweet wings?

Remember that they don't count towards your core limit though, so you will still need some zombies or skeletons moping around.
I do like the idea, and think it might even be viable. Use the bats to tie down enemies, and your vampires to smash them. A Varghulf will fit well in this army I think.

Honestly, I feel like I need some RnF or at least heavy/medium cavalry to win fights. I like the FBs for hunting warmachines, lone characters, weak missile units and small light cav units... often with a little help from a Vampire on a Hellsteed.
It's worth noting that those Fell Bats count as Infantry with regards to IoN. This means that you can really raise a lot of them, if you're so inclined.

Cheers so far guys. I'll post an army list in the army list section and see how people like it
you could always tool up some super nasty flying vampire warriors that could smack bad guys around. I knew a guy who (last book) had a flying circus vampire army with a bunch of nasty flying vampires. 2-3 of them would charge a unit, eat it, and then chase it down and then do the same thing to the next unit.
Unfortunately it is the same with any min-maxed army. Against some armies, you'll get shot to pieces, or the enemy will have absolutely nothing to stop it and the game will be over in 30 min. Either way, while it may be fun a couple of times (if you win) you and your opponent will probably get bored.
I don't see it working as you have no anvil for your small hammer. Vargul wouldhelp as said but you are going to be walked over. Haveing theam is great and I'm all for it but don't sacrifice playability to have it look cool. Try skeletons with bat banners or be ready to summon zombies to tie up troops while your bats flank. thats my call.
Army's used: Space Wolves, Tomb Kings, High Elves, Tyranids, Tau and Eldar.
When I have used the varghulf and a big unit of fell bats all the kids say "like the bats" etc. They do look cool, I'd probably go for 3 characters, 3 core, graveguard then about 5 fell bats, 2 small units of bat swarms and a varghulf. If I or you wanted more bats then swap graveguard for another core choice.
