I've been playing 40k for awhile now, but recently decided I'd like to give Fantasy a shot. Having never played it before, I'm finding that it's really a bit more interesting. For my first army, I decided to give Vampire Counts a try - something about having 1000 zombies on the field just appealed to me.
I did have one question with regard to the Vampire rule specifically (in regard to Blood Knights, but I suppose this'd also apply to the Black Coach as well). I didn't find it referenced on any other threads here, so either I fail at reading forums, or it's a bit of a newb question. ^_^;;; Are all models with the Vampire rule considered level 1 wizards? Or is it just the Lords/Heroes/Character vampires?
After some consultation with other WHFB players at my local shop, I decided to structure a list to nigh-max out the number of zombies I could raise every turn to hold my opponents in place until a kill unit (Blood Knights + Melee Lord) could slam into their side or rear and wipe them from the battlefield. I just wasn't sure, when running the numbers, if I should be considering the Blood Knights as magic dice generators.
Thanks for the answer folks.
Intuitively I knew Blood Knights wouldn't be magic users but you actually need to look closely in the rules to make sure that it is only the characters.
The problem is that Blood Knight use the Vampire special rules. One of the special rule is that characters are magic users. Blood Knights of course aren't characters.
However it might have been better for GW to omit this from the Vampire special rule and just include it in the Character section for all vampires.

Thanks for the quick answers you guys.
I had kind of figured that BKs and other Vampires weren't necessarily wizards - it seemed a bit overpowering to create something that would allow players to be running 40 something power dice. The wording on the rule just seemed a bit confusing, so I wanted to be sure.
Off to paint more zombies! (These things will never end....)
