Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have decided recently to start a FB army, and well VC is going to be awesome IMO, but I;m sure you already know they are!! I was looking at my local store at the battalion box set, and the owner is trying to convince me to buy the last spearhead. Should I? we negotiated a deal since the spearhead doesn't have much of savings, and I already have the book. Our agreed price is $138 for the spearhead. Is it worth that for a new and upstarting player?
-Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit Of All Who Threaten It-
-It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees-
I would say 138 is a great price for the vamp spearhead plus you get the VC book which will get you familiar
comes with 3 vamps
some dires and zombies I think
and a corpse cart--- for 138 its an absolute deal ---battalion is good if you already have army book, and some characters
but get the spear.
as he said, he already has the book. But, assuming this is US$ and not some other $ currency, then it's 48$ more than the battatilion, but...
25$ grave guard
22$ dire wolves
24$ of heroes,
25$ of varghulf
total: 39$ worth more stuff However, you could sell the army book and get more than 9$ for it. Basically, think about what models you want, then choose, because money difference involved is negligible. If you want Vlad for some reason, it depends on all the other models, otherwise battalion. (unless there's models in there you don't want as well). don't rule out neither and just buying the units individually if you don't want zombies or whatever.
In my local store they didn't sell the spearhead so i just bought the battalion. I like the battalion because it gives all the different core troops you need to at least start the army and i bought some character with it aswell. but if you didn't have the rulebook nor any characters I would say buy the spearhead
The spearheads initially came with no saving over buying the items seperately, they are just there to allow players who are impatiant to get their hands on all the new models and the new book before the normal release date. If you can get it a reasonable amount cheaper than retail, then of course it is good value but only if you actually want all of the contents. Have a look at the contents and decide which of them you would likely buy anyway, if that adds up to be worth more than the box costs then go for it. If not, no matter how much you are saving there really is no point if you don't actually want the models.
The battalion is good value and arguably better for a new player since it contains core troops and things most people will need. Don't rule out getting both though, even if you have to buy one soon and save up for the other later. You really need to decide what models you actually like and want to own, plus to a degree what kind of army you want to play and see if they are good value for you.
