Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm getting into to fantasy after a while of admiring it. Vampires and dark elvesinterest me for different reasons.
anywho i was hopingyou guys could tell me about vampire lords.
I was thinkingof making a vampire lord who run witha pack of wolves
vampire wolf lord:
talisman of the lycni
I think this army would have fel bats. I think i'd like 2 necromancers supporting with tarpits while maybe in lovely carts with loadstones.
I did want tomake a vampire lord with banshees but i dont think that would be to viable... maybe maybe it might be... givingthe lord: spectral form, black arts.
Thanks to all those who help if that wont work out my try different vampires or a themed dark elves beast force.

Your idea to run a hard hitting lord with an increadably fast unit is good except for in the case of vampires.
The thing to remember is that the Lord in most armies is a linchpin to what the army you take normaly gathers around and depends on. In vampires this point is even more so importnat as his death can quite quickly end your army as it results in an imediate crumble test and then once again at the begining of any of your phases.
Secondly although they certainly have the speed, Dwolves have only one S3 WS3 attack each, and their only protection is T3. to add to that you wont get the combat bonuses of a banner and (unless you have a massive unit which is not advisable for fast cavalry) ranks.
What i see happening is that if you get through a barrage of missile fire and into combat, a smart opponent will issue a challenge with a unit champion, if you have no Dwolf champion to accept, your vampire will have to accept (or go to the back), capping the number of possible wounds you can achieve for combat res. This leaves the enemy unit to pick apart your Dwolves, adding to thier 3 ranks, Std and outnumber, probably meaning you at best draw combat, only to loose by not having a musician.
Meanwhile the rest of your force is left with if you keep with what you say, two necromancers. with a maximum of lvl1 (one dice) each and not having the "vampire" rule means the rest of your force not in range of your lord cannot use his leadership for break tests, and also if not with 12 of him (or a character 6" with the vampire rule) means they cannot march.
You should realy view most Vampire units now as wound transports for your characters. Generally low WS, low S, low Ld, just what you dont need to win a combat, but make up for it in that they can be raised to massive numbers to carry combat res, added to the damage your vampire may do i will more often than not win the day for you.
To achieve this (though this is open to discression of style of play), I find a balance in a character and of characters in your force is essential, able to be effective spell casters and at the same time combat savy so not just a glorified wizard, (unless you want magic heavy). A combat lord is often Lvl 3 for dice sakes, with at least two vamps at Lvl 2 for back up, then maybe another vamp (if you choose) or this would be an ideal place to bring in a necromancer. I use my lord in the center of the army acting as a combat and magic beacon able to lend his support from his grave guard unit to other units via magic and Ld.
If you still want to run a vampire round as a quick attack alternative i take a vamp with Avatar of Death (two hand weapons & H-armour), Dark Acolyte (Lvl 2), Talisman of Lycni (M 9") and then with the remaining points i sometimes jump between Wristbands of Black Gold for a war save or i have use him with Book of Arkhan in both a quick war machine killing roll and a unit support character sweeping the flanks and rear with a unit of Hounds.
Anyway, hope this helps a litlle,
The more obvious glaring error is that he's given him the dreadlance but no mount, so he can't use the dredlance in combat.
2000AD's answer to all "How do VC deal with ..." questions: Forbidden Lore + 2 Power Stones.
Further answers will require more vodka.
You also lose the Fast Cav rule unless the vampire is mounted.
i Forgot to out in that i'dgive er the dread knight vampire power ><. I sopose i'd also change the necromancers to vampires and give them +magic level and maybe creatures o the night or gouls. I'd also run corpse carts and gouls with a few bats.
I would also like to inquire if a spectral lord wihtbanshees would be work able?
If you intend on running a Spectral Lord with Cairn Wraiths, make sure that you have a lot of magic defense, because they are going get targetted by every caster your opponent can throw at them.

how melee aggressive can i get with my lord. I'm pretty set on having a powerful melee lord. having vampires supporting, throwing out X unit, >.> probably lots of ghouls and zombies. A good winged lord would be awesome and a lot of fun to model if i could get it into a competitive and tournament worthy army thanks to all of you for you continued help on this matter.
If your confident with dragons, a lord with red fury, infinate hatred and walking death, then tooled how you like with magic equipment is a risky but devestating combat monster. i wouldnt recomend it though. talking from experiance there is always a cannonor stone thrower with your name on it, or a crafty magic item like "anoyance of netlings" to screw you over.
Anyway, Red Fury is a must on a combat lord, I have also seen Forbidden Lore taken in aid to have bears anger as an option, increaseing your T by 1, S by 2, and A by 3. With red fury thats a possible 14 Attacks and WS7, S7, but it does mean you then cannot afford Infinate Hatred on the same vampire. not to worry, throw him in the same unit as GG with banner of hatred and hope to breeak your opponent in the first combat.
Now throw him on a dragon and you get 14 S7 attacks (assuming you hit and wound all first time) and 6 S6 attacks from the dragon, causing terror, and unit strength higher than 5 so you can take flanks. if you want to be nasty give him hand of dust to crumple units even before you get attacks in. its just a shame that wristbands of black gold dont cover your mount aswell otherwise it would be a nails option,

Red Fury + Infinite Hatred for Rank and File, Beguile for when you come across things like a blood thirster. With a Dragon and Red Fury you better not need walking death.
as for magic items, I would do either
Blood Drinker, Flayed Hauberk, Crown of the Damned
Blood Drinker, Night Shroud, Crown of the Damned
The Blood Drinker is great for healing your dragon. D6 wounds from a cannon if it does not kill can then be healed. you have 4+ ward... otherwise known as a cannonball shield.
Or for other builds go:
Red Fury, Aura of Dark Majesty with Dread lance, Flayed Hauberk
Red Fury, Infinite Hatred, Avatar of Death with Blood Drinker, Walachs Bloody Hauberk
A combat Vampire on Foot is completely viable but a "flying horror" not in a unit becomes target practice.
