When running your Caster Lord in a bunker behind the main line...
What is some good general strategy to deal with large fliers jumping your main line to charge your Lord in his bunker?
Personally I've never really had allot of experience in this area. However with a local DE army going heavy on beasts it just got me thinking. All I really come up with is offensive magic, and putting your Lord in good armor. Maybe holding a Varghulf in reserve?
Well flyers still need line of sight to charge so keeping the unit behind another could work
2000AD's answer to all "How do VC deal with ..." questions: Forbidden Lore + 2 Power Stones.
Further answers will require more vodka.
If it's a large target it might still draw line of sight.
If you have a unit in a bunker, keep the bunker close enough to a unit in front of it so that the large flyer can't fit between your bunker unit and your front unit...so that there's not enough room for his base to land, at least not for a front charge. Force him off to the side, which will give you a turn of movement to readjust.
In other words, just squeeze your units tighter.
Do people not play with hills? a lone vampire is asking to get shot from a bolt thrower.
Use the nightshourd, and have no fear from being charged.
But do have fear of being ripped apart when you can't kill the enemy flier + character in one turn, as you are wearing light armour....(enemy fliers trying to take apart a Vampire will generally be tooled, and have a ward save. The said character will also cause Terror and outnumber the vampire because of the monster)

Unit with unit champion (skeletons) war banner, three ranks. Challenge with skeleton champion, get killed, win or at least draw combat. Next turn either raise the skeleton champion again or rear charge the monster using vanhals, or wraiths or whatever you have around, even another block of skeletons, then win combat using challenge by at least 2, and he's taking leadership 8 break check at best. or do what David said and move the unit really close to the units in front.
Arms are an instrument of evil, No measure for thoughtful men until there fail all other choice but sad acceptance of it.

He won't need a terror/fear check himself, is my guess.
The challenges work okay, but only for half the rounds - he'll kill your champ on his turn, then you raise him on yours and he kills again... then on his next turn, he's free from your champ challenge to beat on your character. And the "counter charge with XXX" only works if he sets himself up to be counter charged. A smart opponent will not go in there when someone will be looking at his flank.. or he'll charge said flankers with another of his fast units to keep them locked for a turn. Sure, VHD helps, but relying on that to counter a flying meteor of destruction is a bit of a stretch.
I've found the best, when you have a foot slogging lord, is to have the drakenhoff banner in there and hope he doesn't have flaming attacks. In which case you'll obliterate him through CR if you roll average on your saves.
As for positioning close to another unit, that's hit or miss and can also cause problems itself. You'd need to be directly behind your unit so close that he couldn't just clip you on a corner. Of course, if he's a big flyer, he can just delay the charge a turn by going to your flank...
But even if he doesn't, you'll still have other problems: your vampire's unit is now humping another of your units which will block line of sight, block charges, and just clog up the board. Additionally, unless the blocking unit is a powerhouse itself, your opponent could just dual-charge it, destroy it, and then overrun into your vamp unit anyway.
Eh, done rambling, I guess.
