I've come back to working on my vampire counts and I was wondering how other people usually play their armies. How many strong hammer units (and what type) do people usually run.
I've got 1 unit of black knights and a varghulf and my war machine hunters (wolves and fell bats) but other than those units I'm relying of rank bonuses of skeleton units to win the day. Two hammer units seems pretty thin. Does anyone else get away with that few hammer units?
depends on the game size :/ my current 2000 points list has grave gaurd , vargulf, blacknights and raiths... but thats more than most people like to take and it leaves
my core choice pretty weak so i really have to work the summoning spells in the magic
phase to catch up
I usually play fast combat heavy vampire count lists. Line of ghouls for sceeening, usually 4 groups of 15 in a 2250 game(ghoulkin on lord). Followed by 2 units of black knights 1 with a lord 1 with a hero. The screening unit has a vampire (summon ghouls)to keep the front line up. Two vargulfs do a hurting for fast combat too. If i go up to 3k ill usually add some blood knights to the mix.
Vampire Counts-4000 Points
Black Templars-2000 Points
My only real hammer unit is a unit of 19 Grave Guard with Great weapons joined by a Drakenhoff BSB Vampire, I use a Varghulf but he is more a support/utility and can rarely take things by himself, I also use a small unit of Black Knights as flankers. With lots of magic and an item like the helm of commandment VC can get away with few hammers because the anvils can get the job done on their own.
BEN DIESEL FTW!!!
