With Hand weapon and Shield 3 up armor
Great Weapons S6 all the way
Well since we have a poll thats several pages long on how to best equip skellys.
Now I ask how to best equip Grave Guard?
Hitting on 2's and wounding on 2's and striking first is just too good =D (on most things).
I usually kit them out with a shield to increase their durability, also having a sexy 3+ save is a nice change from the endless zombie and skeleton carnage the opposing player usually inflicts.
However, when Morrslieb is particularly bright the ancient Wights grip their ancient two handed blades and bathe in the arterial spurt of dismembered limbs! (Read as: When I think I need more oomph in melee ^^)

I LOVE two handers on my GG. Especially with they get hit with Vanhel's every turn in CC. Rerolling missed hits are just TOO good.
I at first was really into the Great weapons. For who can really hate ASF S6 hitting on 2s. But then again alot of that is taloring the game for that one unit and alot of the guys i play are rolling in dispel dice and are dead set on me from getting maisma of deathly vigour off..
SO im now trying hand weapon and shield.
and im pretty happy with it they dont die as often and since my lord is a proffessional beat stick im still getting combat resolution
With the new rules I go great weapons 9 times out of 10. Even when you can't pull off the Helm of Command + Vanhels/cart combo off you're still normally 3+/2+ to hit/wound, assuming that you haven't had a fit of madness and not given them the banner of the barrows.
And since we can now raise them back with IoN you don't need to worry as much about survivability. I also tend to find most of their survivability comes from T4 and not their armour save so the extra 1 or 2 you lose by giving them GW can be made up by the extra kills you get.

Further answers will require more vodka.
If the unit is going to be joined by a drakenhoff BSB I go with great weapons since the lower save is not as much of an issue with regeneration so it's worth getting the extra attack power.
If not then I think it's best to go without because the extra survivability is great and with S4 and killing blow they still have good attacking power. Not to mention they are cheaper when run this way.

I've only used them once so far and I used HW and SH. They rocked. 10 of them with a Wight King BSB easily took on 5 charging Dragon Princes. But then again, I usually just go for whatever I personally think looks the coolest and focus most of my attention on in-game tactics rather than on the list building aspect. That may be a shot in the foot but hey, I've enjoyed myself so far.
