Ive just started VC and I was wondering what I should get next this is what I have.
01 corpse carts
I was thinking a unit of grave guard for my general but I would like some opinions.
Grave guard are good, and a tough nut to crack. A good place for your general to hide.
The Varghulf could get lonely, though, so perhaps some Dire Wolves or Cavalry (Black Knights are a good start) to keep it company? Something else fast that can move with it, anyway.
Any ideas on what list you're looking for? Are you planning to build combat-heavy lords, or run with a lot of magic? If you can tell us that (or even tell us you haven't decided yet!) then some units may be more suited to your army than others.
I was looking for a combat heavy army. Just gonna have some magic for backup raising. I'M new to fantasy been playing 40k for years but coming to relize they are very different.
The grave guard box will be a realy good add to your army
they are a good bodygaurd for your army and hit pretty hard
and if your going combat heavy you may want 20 of them
and put a combat vampire in there so u have a nice hammer unit which can survive some missle fire ( with shields ! )
and some dire wolves will do
and for 2000 or 1500 points or something i would get 3 bases of spirit hosts they are good foor screening and helping out some of your core units and they have combat potential with 12 attacks
so in a nutshell
Grave guards: Go!
Dire wolves: cant go wrong
Spirit host: something i just like and find handy
Hope it helped a bit Cheers
I'm not myself a massive fan of spirit host.
Grave guard are pretty much a must for any vampire army so certainly go for that.
The problem with what you have so far is that a Varghulf does not provide flanking, as it only has a unit strength of 4, so personally I would go for some black knights to get some all important flank charges in.
Other than that, if you're going REALLY combat heavy, you might want to invest in a unit of Blood Knights, but the models are VERY costly, but stick a mounted vampire in them and you have a unit that most things wont like to stand up to.
I've never tried spirit host as they're rather costly from the looks of it (but I'm actually trying them in a game later on in the week) but I've gotta say blood knights will destroy just about any unit they hit. I've never lost a unit of 5 blood knights (with flag) but have lost their potential in a game or two where the opponent distracts them enough or i misplace their deployment.
For varghulf and blood knights I would use 2 units of 5 dire wolves to act as missile screens and support units (former being most often), black knights are also extremely useful if you want to add them in as well.
I haven't seen too many people use a black coach but I personally think its beastly. with that high toughness, that low an armor save and that great of a ward save I haven't lost one to any army that doesn't have a cannon (in which case it goes boom fast!) so it is really hit or miss but I personally love it.
Oh and the best thing about grave guard over black knights is grave guard raise D6 at a time and knights only one, that's why most of my armies are infantry heavy.
