Hey, I've been skimming through the vc book and couldn't find the answer to that question. Same points, better t, ws, ld, i. Is the armour really worth taking skellies instead of ghouls?
From the Nightmares of Mortals, For the Greater Good of the Devourer of Worlds!
There is a lot of information on this already on the forums where you can a more detailed analysis, but to answer your question, in a direct comparison Ghouls are actually better as individuals, they have worse armour - but to make up for it they have better toughness, and their killing power is much greater due to better WS (though this is marginal as it is still mostly 4+ to hit) but more importantly, double the number of attacks, poisoned.
Where Skeletons are better is that they have access to a full command, as opposed to just the champion and they have a respectable armour save, making them much better at static combat resolution.
Skellies aren't really better than Ghouls, they just have different roles - if you want to try and actually damage a unit go for Ghouls, but if you want to break it through superior combat res and fear then go for Skellies.
Very well put Xethemez. Helped out alot, just started playing with my friends VC army.
Skeletons can normally take the brunt of a frontal attack....moreso than ghouls in my experience....however if ghouls can charge (or get in a flank) say good bye to the unit they are charging because they are awesome in combat...combined with the helm of commandment and put a BSB in them with drakenhoff banner...ouch
They both have different ways of winning combat either static res or kills but either way they do the same job....
Good luck, and may the dice gods smile upon you and smite your foes
P.S. I like ghouls more
